START DATE AUGUST 2021 

The teacher education program at Bridgewater College seeks a full-time Tenure-Track Assistant Professor with expertise in literacy education in P-12 schools. The successful candidate will join a growing and dynamic teacher education program faculty at a liberal arts college instructing P-6, 6-12 and P-12 literacy courses. Additional responsibilities will include recruiting, advising, and mentoring students; participating in departmental and committee tasks; and maintaining an active scholarly agenda. This position will start August 2021.

QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. or Ed.D. in education with a specialization in literacy, or closely related field.  Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate successful higher education teaching experience in literacy and current or former teaching experience as a literacy or reading specialist in P-12 education, the ability to work in a team environment, and the ability to relate their professional experience and knowledge to the needs and interests of a diverse student body in a small college environment.

GENERAL INFORMATION: Bridgewater College was founded in 1880 as the first coeducational college in Virginia. Bridgewater offers bachelor’s degrees in approximately 60 majors and minors, along with four graduate programs, pre-professional programs such as medicine and law, and teacher licensure. The College is a member of NCAA Division III and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, with 23 intercollegiate athletic teams. The vibrant residential campus is located in the town of Bridgewater, Virginia, near the city of Harrisonburg in the center of the Shenandoah Valley. An excellent school system, healthy business environment, numerous arts and cultural events, one of the state's lowest crime rates, and a variety of outdoor opportunities and historic attractions draw many to the region.
