Job Summary:

Assistant Teaching Professor/Assistant Lecturer will teach multiple sections of ESP 103: Creativity, Innovation, and Entrepreneurial Thinking, advise students, and provide service to the institution, and the discipline. ESP 103: Creativity, Innovation, and Entrepreneurial Thinking is part of the required First-Year Integrated Core (FYIC) curriculum for all Farmer School of Business majors. The FYIC is an innovative four-course bundle that teaches students key skills such as critical thinking, creative thinking, computational thinking & coding, ethical thinking, communication, and collaboration. As an ESP 103 team member, you will be a part of a faculty team who work together to integrate these key skills across all four FYIC classes (BUS 101: Foundations of Business; BUS 102: Foundations of Business Communication; ESP 103: Creativity, Innovation, and Entrepreneurial Thinking; and BUS 104: Introduction to Computational Thinking for Business). ESP 103: Creativity, Innovation, and Entrepreneurial Thinking introduces students to concepts needed to succeed in business. The person in this position is responsible for combining a practitioner’s perspective with solid academic foundations to an introductory level course. A successful candidate will share the values of collaboration, entrepreneurial thinking, creativity, and a relentless pursuit of excellence in undergraduate teaching. The candidate must be interested in contributing to teaching outside the box as part of a team.

Service responsibilities undertaken by faculty in the FYIC and their home department could include developing and facilitating programmatic integration and enhanced programmatic efficacy; developing and maintaining teaching materials and resources shared by the FYIC and department; and/or providing support for one or more of the following: Visiting faculty teaching in the FYIC or Department, assessment of FYIC and other courses, e-learning, and career opportunities for students.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must have earned a master’s degree and 5 years of managerial or executive level professional experience or highly applied professional experience, professional experience in entrepreneurial (start-up, social, corporate or creative) organization, professional experience in entrepreneurial ecosystem activities, such as funding, evaluating, mentoring entrepreneurial organizations, or professional experience in entrepreneurial education (in higher education or practice) for rank of Assistant Lecturer or doctorate for rank of Assistant Teaching Professor in business, computer science, microbiology and occasionally from creative and liberal arts fields by the time of appointment. Candidates must have expertise in teaching within the field, with demonstrated evidence of teaching effectiveness; strong interpersonal and collaborative skills; ability to communicate effectively with first-year students through senior level faculty / administrators.

Desired Qualifications:

Consideration may be given to candidates with multiple years of experience engaging with clients from a variety of industries, organizations, and/or disciplines; experience teaching professional skills (e.g. teamwork, project management, technical writing, reproducibility, coding, verbal and written communication) to students and/or colleagues; commitment to pedagogic innovation; demonstrated enthusiasm for undertaking student-centered service responsibilities such as academic and extracurricular advising; demonstrated enthusiasm for undertaking programmatic or departmental service responsibilities; at least ten years of entrepreneurial experience in start-up, corporate, creative, or social entrepreneurship; and / or a combination of education and professional experiences around innovation, organizational change, problem solving, design, or idea generation.
