Assistant Teaching Professor/Assistant LecturerJob Summary:
Assistant Teaching Professor/Assistant Lecturer (three non tenure-track positions) to teach multiple sections of BUS 102: Foundations of Business Communication, advise students, and provide service to the institution, and the discipline. BUS 102: Foundations of Business Communication is part of the required First-Year Integrated Core (FYIC) curriculum for all Farmer School of Business majors. The FYIC is an innovative four-course bundle that teaches students key skills such as critical thinking, creative thinking, computational thinking & coding, ethical thinking, communication, and collaboration. As a BUS 102 team member, you will be a part of a faculty team who work together to integrate these key skills across all four FYIC classes (BUS 101: Foundations of Business; BUS 102: Foundations of Business Communication; ESP 103: Creativity, Innovation, and Entrepreneurial Thinking; and BUS 104: Introduction to Computational Thinking for Business). BUS 102: Foundations of Business Communication course focuses on an integrated approach to teaching both oral and written business communication. BUS 102 addresses the foundations of rhetoric (audience, purpose, context) through a series of rigorous projects conducted individually or in teams. Development and delivery of professional business-grade presentations is a key area of focus. Additionally, students pursue business internships and learn to use writing and interviewing as a competitive asset in securing an opportunity. Students learn to conduct research, develop solutions, and develop recommendations that are delivered in formal business presentations. Other types of common business digital communication are also addressed in the course.
Service responsibilities undertaken by faculty in the FYIC and their home department could include developing and facilitating programmatic integration and enhanced programmatic efficacy; developing and maintaining teaching materials and resources shared by the FYIC and department; and/or providing support for one or more of the following: Visiting faculty teaching in the FYIC or Department, assessment of FYIC and other courses, e-learning, and career opportunities for students.Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must have earned a master’s degree for rank of Assistant Lecturer or doctorate for rank of Assistant Teaching Professor in a related field by the time of appointment. Candidates must have expertise in teaching in rhetoric and writing, communication, business, or related fields, with demonstrated evidence of teaching effectiveness assessment of FYIC and other courses, e-learning, and career opportunities for students.
