Emerson College

President

Emerson College invites nominations and applications for the position of president.

Located in the heart of Boston’s theater district, Emerson College enjoys international stature as the premier liberal arts institution devoted to communications and the arts. Its academic majors and programs form a distinctive commitment to the liberal arts paired with real-world experience in the areas of Communication Studies, Journalism, Marketing, Television, Film, Theatre, Writing, Literature, Publishing, Communication Science Disorders, and the first Comedic Arts major in the country.

The next president will join the College community during a period of exciting growth, momentum, and increased national and international recognition. Emerson’s campuses in Boston, Los Angeles, and the Netherlands and degree programs in Boston, Paris, and Lugano, Switzerland, will give the next president the unparalleled opportunity to leverage the College’s expanded reach while further developing Emerson’s leadership in shaping the skills of the next generation of storytellers across multiple media and technologies.

Reporting directly to the Board of Trustees, the 13th president will embody visionary leadership and a passion for excellence in teaching and scholarship. The ideal candidate will bring a breadth of leadership and creativity in strategic planning, along with a history of collaborative community building, shared governance, and a deep commitment to diversity, equity, social justice, and inclusion. The president will be well poised to leverage Emerson’s contemporary urban campus and deep ties to the City of Boston. This includes Emerson’s partnerships with the city’s vibrant arts and theater scene, major civic organizations, and its expansive impact on Boston’s continued economic development. Additionally, the president will work to expand Emerson’s industry inroads in Los Angeles to strengthen opportunities for students through key relationships in the Los Angeles market. Adept at working with multiple constituencies, the president will be a gifted communicator and empathetic listener ready to partner with faculty, staff, students, and alumni, as well as with the general public, to ensure Emerson’s future success. Knowledge of one or more areas within the communications, entertainment, and arts industries is desirable.
