Job Description:

The SHARC (Southern HIV & Alcohol Research Consortium) Center for Translational Research is seeking an OPS Study Recruiter to work across multiple studies primarily in the HIV, aging and alcohol populations. Some of the studies will involve collaboration with the Center for Aging and Memory, UF Health and Florida Department of Health. Working collaboratively with research coordinators, faculty and other key personnel you will identify new areas for potential recruitment and maintain recruitment infrastructure at current sites. You will act as a representative for ongoing studies and the Center by establishing relationships with recruitment sites and most importantly staff. In addition, you will approach and/or be available to potential participants to orient them into mobile SHARC research, a contact registry and if eligible, larger studies. The OPS Study Recruiter will need to be very familiar with each of the projects we are recruiting for and will interact regularly with the research coordinators for specific projects. This position will be required to travel to different sites within Alachua county as well as surrounding areas for recruitment. A successful candidate is outgoing and comfortable approaching individuals from different backgrounds in the community and health care settings. The person should be well-organized and receptive to feedback.

Identify potential participants for our research studies, obtain contact information, and link them to specific projects

  • Identify new sources of recruitment and collaboration in Alachua County and surrounding areas (e.g. Lake City, Ocala)
  • Build relationships with clinic staff, organizers and other personnel in health care settings and community groups
  • Be familiar with several current studies including their enrollment criteria, number of study visits, participant incentives
  • Maintain records of enrollment and screening for reporting
  • Ensure that all recruitment communication and brochures are consistent with approved research protocols by the IRB
  • Contact potential participants who have indicated they may be interested in our research studies
  • Keep up-to-date with our team’s various projects and the key personnel working on the studies

  • Attend study team meetings for SHARC to ensure familiarity with the projects and the staff who are working on specific projects
  • Assist with developing marketing strategies and implementation for recruitment and retention
  • Perform miscellaneous study duties as assigned
  • Assist with data collection and consent process for some projects

  • Obtain informed consent for smaller projects (after being appropriately trained and approved by the IRB)
  • Assist participants to complete surveys and data collection forms on paper, I-pads, or laptop computers
  • Provide gift cards or cash incentives to participants who complete survey projects
  • Assist with other duties as needed

    Advertised Salary:

    $15.00-$20.00 per hour, commensurate with education, skills, and experience

    Minimum Requirements:

    High school diploma or equivalent

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Human subject research experience, experience interacting with patients in health care settings, customer service, or sales
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Have method of transportation to visit different community and clinic settings

    Schedule: We can support 20-40 hours per week. The specific hours will generally be weekdays (Monday – Friday), but some phone calls will need to be made on weekends and evenings. Overall, hours are somewhat flexible and dependent on clinic times, community events and scheduled appointments.
