Research Associate Professor Job Description
The Research Assistant Professor will ideally have a background in pancreatic development and disease, including pancreatic cancer. He/she will play a major role in managing and executing key research projects in the department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine that will result in peer reviewed publications and opportunities for research funding. Projects will be conducted within the scope of the larger research vision of the laboratory, as defined by the Principal Investigator.
Requirements and Qualifications:
Must be an PhD, M.D or D.O. who is Board Certified or Board eligible.
Ph.D. in biochemistry, molecular biology, or equivalent area.
Completion of successful post-doctoral fellowship that resulted in first authorship and/or co-authorship of papers in peer reviewed journals, with an emphasis on pancreatic developmental biology.
At least two years experience as a faculty-level Research Instructor that resulted in first authorship and/or co-authorship of papers in peer reviewed journals, with an emphasis on pancreatic cancer metastasis.
Demonstrated knowledge and application of scientific techniques, including mouse models of pancreatic development and disease, immunofluorescence imaging, cell culture, and basic molecular biology skills.
A willingness and ability to work with diverse constituency.
Demonstrates ability to develop collaborative research projects in a manner consistent with the Principal Investigator’s research plan and contribute towards the making of scientific advances in the field of pancreatic cancer.
Job Responsibilities (Include But Not Limited To):
Report to the Principal Investigator and the chair of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
Conduct and execute scientific research investigations under the supervision and guidance of the Principal Investigator and in collaboration with other lab members, including postdoctoral fellows, research associates, and students, as necessary.
Design projects, execute experiments, collect data, analyze data, and report data results and conclusions under the highest ethical standards of research integrity.
Write and submit scientific manuscripts and abstracts.
Explore and develop appropriate research collaborations both within and outside of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine departments and schools.
Participate in educational activities of pathology residents and fellows.
Participate in educational activities of medical students.
Serve as a mentor for graduate and medical students, residents, fellows and faculty who are interested in or pursue basic/clinical or applied research.
Collaborate with other investigators throughout the University.
Participate in Department of Pathology hospital committees and working groups.
Maintain high standards of professional services so that the Department of Pathology will maintain the JCAHO/CAP/CLIA accreditation.
Increase research funding to Department from NIH and other government and non-government sources.
