Job Summary/Basic Function:Job Summary:The Application Administrator provides assistance in one or all areas of instructional applications that includes testing, design and analysis, software upgrades and problem resolution. Assists in the formulation of procedures and best practices for users of applications. Designs training programs, including classroom lectures, online courses, and one¬ on¬ one sessions directed at faculty and staff, or those who use the university’s technology services. Helps faculty employ the use of instructional technology and serves as an instructional technology expert. Provides subject matter expertise in support of the applications team responsible for instructional technology systems and applications, including the learning management system.
Essential Job Functions:
1.Support the Learning Management System (LMS) environment.
Provide administration and support for the learning management system and other instructional applications.
Respond to LMS or other instructional technology issues in a timely manner, providing high-quality answers or resolutions; troubleshoot reported issues and work with application administrators to identify root causes and remedies.
Process assigned service request tickets according to established procedures, meeting SLAs / performance goals.
Assist departments and schools in deploying LMS courses developed by faculty members.
Assists in the formulation of procedures and best practices for users of learning management systems and related instructional technology.
Maintain a current knowledge of the learning management system and its enhancements, and related software and technologies; research and recommend improvements in existing LMS and other instructional technologies and practices.
Assist in adapting the LMS and its related technologies to meet the growing needs of instructional design and online learning.
2.LMS administration, integration, maintenance, and management.
Perform routine and periodic administration and maintenance tasks for the LMS and other instructional technologies, adhering to established change control procedures.
Perform quality control, assurance and testing for learning management and related applications and services.
Administer assigned applications (production and non-production environments).
Develop and deploy standard operating procedures for maintenance and management, and for applying upgrades, patches, releases of LMS and related instructional technologies.
Identify and research patches/fixes for supported systems. design and develop LMS interfaces; create and implement testing scripts for major releases, patches, and integration upgrades.
Lead application upgrade projects: test, validate and ensure all current and new functionality is tested and released for use by campus community
Define and develop appropriate metrics to measure performance and ensure metrics are collected, reported and reviewed regularly.
Perform quality control, assurance and testing on systems.
Periodically audit logs and access privileges to ensure appropriate security and privacy of applications and data.
Process assigned service request tickets according to established procedures and SLAs.
Develop, maintain and report results of monitoring scripts to measure identified quality metrics and alert appropriately to any exceptions.
Review new products and services to enhance the overall service management of the application services environment.
Other duties may be assigned to this position on a regular or occasional basis to respond to needs of the university.
Minimum Education Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related discipline preferred. Experience may substitute for a degree on 2:1 basis.
Minimum Experience Required:
2 years’ experience in managing Blackboard or another Learning Management System in an educational setting
Key Competencies:
•Experience developing and maintaining LMS applications (Blackboard, Canvas, D2L or similar)
•Experience developing and conducting training on LMS tools and technologies
•Experience in maintaining and managing system interfaces and usage metrics and reporting tools
Physical Requirements:
•Ability to lift 40 pounds and remain sedentary working at a desk for extended period of time.
•Current driver’s license and ability to travel.
