  • Position Description:

    As a postdoctoral scholar, Unidentified will be responsible for developing at least one line of research in the lab related to membrane protein quality control. It is expected that this new research direction will lead to multiple publications and external funding. The ideal candidate will have expertise in yeast biology and/or mammalian cell culture and will help establish these new model systems in the lab by assisting in the training of other lab members. In addition to research responsibilities, the applicant is expected to mentor/train both graduate and undergraduate students, be an active participant in lab meetings and journal clubs, and make positive contributions to lab maintenance and citizenship.

    Qualifications:

    Education/experience/licensing:

      Candidate will have (or will be soon obtain) a Ph.D. in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, or related field.Candidate should be able to clearly communicate the importance of their Ph.D. project and how it relates to the larger field. Candidate is expected to show a mastery of Ph.D. material and techniques and be able to think independently.Candidate should have experience with fundamentals of yeast molecular biology including altering chromosomal DNA and dissecting tetrads.Candidate should have experience with mammalian cell culture. Desired skills include transfection, FACS, fluorescence microscopy, and immuno-fluorescence.
    Communication and other skills:       

      Ability to read, speak, and write in scientific English.Proven track record of publishing peer reviewed publications in English journals.Experience mentoring junior scientists such as graduate and undergraduate students.

    Working Conditions:Works in a laboratory environment with possible high stress levels. May be required to lift items up to 50 Ibs. Work will involve handling of potentially hazardous chemicals, radioactivity, or biohazardous materials. Work hours may be irregular due to the nature of the experiments.
