Teaching faculty also have the opportunity to advise our innovative Major Qualifying Projects where teams of students complete their capstone design projects individually mentored by BME faculty. Teaching faculty contribute to continuous curriculum improvement, ABET accreditation developing new educational initiatives, and service to the university and their profession. Submission of grant proposals focused on engineering education are strongly encouraged, and there are opportunities for laboratory research as well.

The Department of Biomedical Engineering delivers a vibrant ABET-accredited undergraduate BME program with approximately 450 undergraduate and 70 graduate students pursuing BS, MS, MEng, and Ph.D. degrees. WPI, and BME in particular, is committed to a project-based learning approach throughout the curriculum. WPI’s campus is located in Worcester, Massachusetts, a thriving 21st century college city recognized as a growing hub of scientific and technological innovation about one-hour west of Boston and ten minutes from the UMass Medical School.

WPI’s reputation as a rigorous and innovative university rests on the shoulders of its faculty. A highly selective, private technological university and one of the nation’s first, WPI believes that when great minds work together, great advances follow. Our department and institute are committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued and respected; a place where every student, faculty and staff member can be themselves, irrespective of their race, class, gender, or sexual orientation, so that they can study, live, and work comfortably, to reach their full potential, and make meaningful contributions in order to meet departmental and institutional goals. Analogous to the tenure track, WPI offers non-tenure-track faculty opportunities for promotion to the rank of Associate and Full Teaching Professor.
