Jobs in this career family support students' emotional and physical well-being and intellectual, cultural and social development outside the context of the formal instruction program or traditional academic unit.  Functions include student counseling, career guidance, residence life, multicultural affairs, support of student activities and organizations, recreation services and intramural athletics administration. 

Senior Professionals are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field.  Work is performed fully independently. 

Introduction:
Globally, roughly one-fifth of young people ages 15 to 24 are neither employed nor receiving education or training, suggesting that they will need alternative pathways to obtain the skills and experience necessary to succeed in the labor market. In the U.S., just 41 percent of young adults have completed education beyond high school at a time when well-paying jobs increasingly require a two- or four-year degree or some type of additional training. Here in Denver, over 86 percent of Colorado’s Tier 1 jobs require some type of postsecondary education (certificate, Associate’s, Bachelor’s degree or above).

In late fall of 2020, JPMorgan Chase announced Denver as the first recipient of their Global Career Readiness Initiative, a five-year career readiness initiative, and part of the firm’s $350 million New Skills’ at Work investment to prepare young people for the jobs of today and tomorrow; developing pathways and policy recommendations to advance racial equity in access to higher education and real-world experiences. Spearheading this initiative, the Denver Education Attainment Network (DEAN) leads a consortium represented by Denver Public Schools, Community College of Denver (CCD), Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver), University of Colorado Denver (CU Denver), Emily Griffith Technical College (EGTC), Colorado Department of Education (CDE), Colorado Department of Higher Education (CDHE), and the Colorado Community College System (CCCS). 

Consortium efforts focus on careers in industries that have been identified as offering well-paying careers and projected job growth, including healthcare, business, IT, and cybersecurity by the Colorado Workforce Development Council’s annual Colorado Talent Pipeline Report. The Denver consortium addresses policy and access efforts via the following collaborative efforts: 

  • Scaling high-quality integrated career pathways with state support: Fostering state policy environments that seed and support high-quality local career pathways, so that innovation and implementation are replicated and scaled at the state level.
  • Creating seamless connections from high school to post-secondary to career: Connections between high school, higher education, and good jobs should become seamless by developing educational pathways that offer students early postsecondary experiences and lead to credentials aligned with high-skill, high-wage, and in-demand careers.
  • Expanding access to work-based learning experiences: Improving access to good jobs by connecting students to real work experiences in industries fueling future economic growth, such as technology and health care.
  • Ensuring access and opportunity for all: Removing barriers to meaningful career opportunities for historically disadvantaged populations, and supporting effective transitions from school to work, by aligning equitable policy and practice to scale proven career pathways programs that ensure equity and access.
  • Leveraging employer partnerships: Engaging employers at the state and local level in the design, implementation, evaluation, and modification of integrated high-quality career pathways as part of the broader state or local economic development strategy.
Position Emphasis:
Funded by the JPMorgan Chase foundation, CU Denver is looking for an Employer and Industry Partnerships Coordinator. Working with the Employer Relations team within CU Denver’s Lynx Connect, the Employer and Industry Partnerships Coordinator will cultivate, develop and maintain employer relationships for the University of Colorado Denver, resulting into pipeline programs for career pathways. This position assists in planning employer-based recruitment events, such as the biannual Internship and Job Fair, and on-campus interviewing. This position will work with the Job Location Development Coordinator to develop student employment into a high impact practice, turning on-campus opportunities into Work-Based Learning Opportunities, where students develop Career Readiness Competencies. The Employer and Industry Partnerships Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating with the Career Pathways Coordinator (CU Denver Undergraduate Admissions), creating workshops for prospective students and transitioning students to CU Denver pre-mid and post application and enrollment. This position will advise students on student employment opportunities, and work with on-campus partners to develop positions into Work-Based Learning opportunities. This position will inform the Career Counseling team, and the Internship advising team on opportunities for students, both on and off campus. This position will bridge conversations between DPS, Emily Griffith Technical College, the Community College of Denver, CU Denver Schools and Colleges and employers and industry partners regarding career readiness competencies. This position will serve as the career and partnerships liaison for the New Skills at Work consortium alongside CU Denver’s Executive Director for Transfer Initiatives and other partners, and perform other grant duties as assigned. 

PLEASE NOTE: Candidates will be responsible for travel expenses related to the interview process and any relocation expenses, if applicable.

Salary and Benefits:
The hiring rate for this position has been established at $42,729.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above hiring rate represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:  

  • A bachelor’s degree in education, communication, social science, women and gender studies, psychology, computer science, business, public administration, business administration, higher education, counseling, hospitality, liberal arts, human services, student affairs, or a directly related field from an accredited institution. Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis, but not for the specific experience.
  • Two (2) years of recruitment, sourcing or hiring experience in an academic, corporate, non-profit or related setting.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience working with financial aid and/or work-study funding.
  • Experience with event planning.
  • Experience with grant development and writing.
  • Experience tracking data and processing paperwork.
  • Experience in creating educational or employment pipeline programs or student employment initiatives.
  • Experience with online job search platforms, preferably Handshake, Microsoft Teams, and/or CU-SIS.
