The Center for Faculty Development & Advancement has an opening for a part-time (0.49 FTE) University Staff (unclassified) Assistant Director, Center for Faculty Development & Advancement position.

Jobs in this career family provide direct professional support for the teaching and/or educational service mission of the university. Functions include academic advising/counseling, student personnel administration, recruitment and admissions, registration, financial aid, faculty affairs, library services, curriculum administration, and others involving direct support of the educational mission of an academic unit.

Assistant Directors have responsibility for projects, functions or processes within a department.  These positions may recommend strategy and provide professional support to Directors and may have the authority to act on the Director's behalf.  Assistant Directors typically supervise other staff but do not generally control the allocation of fiscal or human resources.

Position Emphasis:
The Center for Faculty Development & Advancement’s (CFDA) Assistant Director (AD) will play roles in supporting faculty members while they grow as leaders, advance in rank, and thrive as members of the University community and beyond. The AD will specifically concentrate on building communities that support faculty members in these goals while building connections with each other & the broader university community. The AD will work with the Director on the design of programming, communities of practice, and initiatives supporting faculty on the Denver and Anschutz Medical Campuses. Projects will strategically support the CFDA’s plans for growing faculty leadership, helping faculty members to advance in rank, and thrive as members of the University community. For example, the AD will likely be involved with planning, connecting, and expanding faculty mentoring programs at the two campuses. They will also play a significant role in designing programs that develop faculty communities based around specific interests. The AD may be involved in planning and presentation of in-person and virtual interactive presentation series, hosting faculty communities on topics of interest, supporting faculty through conversations about career advancement and dossier building, and much more.

This position may evolve over time as the CFDA evolves, and as faculty needs evolve. The AD may also develop signature initiatives and themes that relate strategically to the CFDA’s goals.

Examples of Work Performed:

  • The AD will work with the Director to lead, build, and provide programs supporting faculty on the Denver and Anschutz Medical Campuses. 
  • Leading initiatives to support & build community among new faculty.
  • Delivering communities of practice for faculty with shared scholarly, conceptual, and practice-based interests.
  • Assessing faculty goals and professional development needs.
  • Working with academic departments across the Denver and Anschutz Medical Campuses to create programs tailored to specific professional development needs.
  • Engaging with departments & campus offices in order to publicize services and support partnerships.
  • Supporting faculty in preparation for rank advancement and application for University awards.
  • Consulting with faculty on individual professional and scholarly needs.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Salary and Benefits:
The salary range for this position has been established at $30,000 to $35,000 (0.49 FTE). 

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: 

  • A bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, business, public administration, health care, educational technology, social science, liberal arts, communications, accounting, finance, library science, or a directly related field from an accredited institution. Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis, but not for the specific experience.
  • The position requires extensive, diverse and progressively responsible experience, including direct responsibility for managing instruction, curriculum design, and/or faculty affairs.

Conditions of Employment: Due to current circumstances, this position will start remotely. When campus reopens, we expect that this role report onsite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current full-time tenured University of Colorado Denver or Anschutz Medical Campus faculty member.
  • Earned terminal degree in any field or discipline from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • 2+ years of leadership experiences working with faculty.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
  • Knowledge of best practices in higher-education faculty mentoring and development programs.
  • Strong knowledge of reappointment, tenure, and promotion (RTP) processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge and skills in developing program outcomes and creating effective assessment tools.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with program and curriculum design, program implementation and adult learning pedagogy.
  • Leadership experience, skills, and abilities to develop and carry forward new initiatives and resolve problems in a quick, efficient, creative and culturally competent manner.
  • Demonstrated mentoring skills and enthusiasm to grow others.
  • Effective communicator with ability to collaborate, write, present in public settings, lead group discussions, and provide individual consultations. 
  • A demonstrated ability to integrate principles of diversity and inclusion into programs and practices. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Ability to successfully prioritize among multiple tasks and manage multiple projects with distinct timelines.
