Position SummaryThe ADA/504 Coordinator’s responsibilities include assuring compliance with the Americans with Disabilities (ADA) Act, Sections 503 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and other federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to persons with disabilities.

The ADA/504 Coordinator is responsible for coordinating CSM policies and procedures relating to persons with disabilities, tracking college progress relating to its policies and procedures as well as state and federal laws relating to persons with disabilities, filing all necessary reports, and providing consultative services to employing units and offices.


The work schedule for this position is 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Flexibility is required.

Serves as the principal planning coordinator for CSM programs, policies, and procedures relating to college compliance and the promotion of opportunities for persons with disabilities.Compliance Process Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that appropriate processes are in place to provide for the prompt and equitable resolution of complaints and inquiries from CSM employees and students, as well as the public, regarding compliance with the ADA and other applicable federal and state laws regarding discrimination on the basis of disability.
  • Supports and investigates allegations of discrimination and non-compliance under the ADA and other applicable federal and state laws regarding discrimination on the basis of disability.
  • Maintains a record of all disability and accommodation issues and the resolution of each.Informational Responsibilities:

  • Supports and maintains current information regarding state and federal laws and regulations as well as the best practices of other colleges/universities and private employers concerning the rights of persons with disabilities and ways of providing reasonable accommodations to persons with disabilities while maintaining program performance standards.
  • Supports Executive Director with current information regarding state and federal laws and regulations as well as the best practices of other college/universities and private employers relating to the college’s employment policies and procedures for faculty, staff and academic professional employees with disabilities.Central Consulting and Outreach Responsibilities:

  • Develops and maintains written materials and other informational pieces to broadly disseminate information regarding the ADA and the college’s policies relating to persons with disabilities.
  • Designs and participates in the development of presentations for students, faculty and staff on the provision of equal opportunity for persons with disabilities.Essential Functions:

  • Able to diffuse and mediate difficult issues between students, faculty, and outside individuals/parents.
  • Address accommodations request for students, faculty, staff, Cont. Education programs and all public events. Maintain a case load of approximately 90 students per semester.
  • Determines with student input appropriate academic adjustments consistent with documentation and impact of disability in post-secondary environment.
  • Reviews and evaluates diagnostic documentation to determine eligibility for services.
  • Provides appropriate advocacy, services and referrals for students as needed and required by law.
  • Assists the Coordinators in ensuring that all college programs, services, and activities are accessible and in compliance with the ADA/ADAA, Section 504, Section 508, and all pertinent federal and state laws pertaining to disability.
  • Assists with data collection for state and annual reports.
  • Assists with the development of programs and workshops on disability issues for faculty, staff, students, and external agencies.
  • Assists in developing policy procedures relating to Disability Support Services
  • Recommend short term and long-term strategic initiatives for Disability Support Services in to provide services and direct assistance to students with documented disabilities.
  • Determines with student input appropriate academic adjustments consistent with documentation and impact of disability in post-secondary environment.
  • Reviews and evaluates diagnostic documentation to determine eligibility for services.
  • Assist with intakes and student requests as needed.

    Additional Duties:

    Performs other related work as required Minimum Education and TrainingMinimum of a Bachelor’s degree in related field and 2 years’ experience working with individuals with disabilities in a higher education setting. Master’s degree preferred with at least 1-year experience. Minimum Qualifications and Standards RequiredKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    Knowledge of various types of disabilities and appropriate post-secondary accommodations.Working knowledge of federal laws pertaining to disabled students, including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 508, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and the Amended ADA of 2009.Demonstrates ability in web page updates.Ability to work without close supervision as well as in a collaborative environment.Demonstrates willingness and flexibility to handle multiple projects at one time.Demonstrated excellent written and oral communications skills.

    Physical Requirements:

    The work is sedentary work which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly.
