Job Summary:

Assistant Teaching Professor/Assistant Lecturer position to coordinate (Team Lead) and teach multiple sections of BUS 104: Introduction to Computational Thinking for Business and provide service to students, the institution, and the discipline. BUS 104: Introduction to Computational Thinking for Business is part of the required First-Year Integrated Core (FYIC) curriculum for all Farmer School of Business majors. The FYIC is an innovative four-course bundle that teaches students key skills such as critical thinking, creative thinking, computational thinking & coding, ethical thinking, communication, and collaboration. The BUS 104 Team Lead coordinates faculty and curriculum of the course. Additionally, the Team Lead is part of a faculty team who work together to integrate these key skills across all four FYIC classes (BUS 101: Foundations of Business; BUS 102: Foundations of Business Communication; ESP 103: Creativity, Innovation, and Entrepreneurial Thinking; and BUS 104: Introduction to Computational Thinking for Business). BUS 104: Introduction to Computational Thinking for Business introduces students to the fundamentals of computational thinking as an aid to data-driven business problem-solving. Topics include computational thinking as problem solving, representing data through abstractions, and thinking in terms of algorithms (loops, conditions, reusable code, functions and events) to automate finding solutions. The course lays the foundations for students identifying, analyzing, and implementing solutions for data-driven business problems and the communication of results.

In addition to serving as Team Lead of the BUS 104 course, service responsibilities undertaken by faculty in the FYIC and their home department could include developing and facilitating programmatic integration and enhanced programmatic efficacy; developing and maintaining teaching materials and resources shared by the FYIC and department; and/or providing support for one or more of the following: Visiting faculty teaching in the FYIC or Department, assessment of FYIC and other courses, e-learning, and career opportunities for students.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must have earned a master’s degree for rank of Assistant Lecturer or doctorate for rank of Assistant Teaching Professor in Information Systems or a related field by the time of appointment.

Desired Qualifications:

Consideration may be given to candidates who have related teaching experience, with demonstrated evidence of teaching effectiveness.
