Common App is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the pursuit of access, equity, and integrity in the college admission process. Each year we support more than one million students, one-third of whom are first-generation, as they apply to our nearly 900 diverse member college & universities using the Common App's free online application. If you have experience in strategic communications, public relations, program management and executive support with a particular passion for encouraging and supporting first-generation students and students from low-income families navigate their path to and through this process, our Director of the Executive Office position could be the right fit for you!

The Director of the Executive Office provides complex confidential support as well as strategic guidance to the President & CEO and Executive Team. This work requires the exercise of initiative, independent judgment, and advanced project management skills to a wide range of work situations often involving highly sensitive and confidential information in a dynamic and fast paced environment. This individual must be a solution centered problem-solver with exceptional verbal and written communication skills, a deep knowledge of post-secondary education and issues facing the college access and success landscape, and a proven ability to work effectively with senior executives, Board members, legal counsel and the general public.

The director will provide ongoing support to the President & CEO, Executive Team and Board of Directors for internal and external meetings that involve the President & CEO; providing background research on relevant topics and participants, providing executive briefings and talking points, drafting agendas, speeches and presentations, and providing strategic and policy guidance to the CEO and c-suite team. This individual will also capture and track key action items and coordinate with stakeholders and manage items to ensure follow through. This individual will have exceptional organizational and project management skills, strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. These duties and functions will require confidentiality, initiative, tact, sound decision-making, independent judgment, and the ability to escalate serious or unique problems to higher levels.

The ideal candidate will possess a deep knowledge of the post-secondary education landscape and issues around college access and success for students, families and higher education institutions and a bachelor’s degree with five or more years of experience in program management, strategic communications, public relations or executive support at the c-suite level. Experience researching and creating executive summaries and briefings to prepare executives for conversations, meetings and events is essential. Candidates must exhibit exceptional written, and oral communication skills with the ability to draft and produce high quality, succinct written communications, speeches, and presentations for individuals at all levels of the organization. This position requires exceptional project management, organizational skills and attention to detail along with a high degree of emotional intelligence, interpersonal skills, diplomacy, and tact.
