Position Summary:

The Department of Pediatrics of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking to fill the position of Chief of the Division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine to lead and expand the Division’s clinical, education, and research activities. The successful candidate will be a leader in the area of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine with Sub-Board Certification in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine.

The North Carolina Children’s Hospital is part of a quaternary care medical center with a 58 bed, level IV multidisciplinary Neonatal Critical Care Center (NCCC) that admits over 900 patients per year and supports active pediatric general surgery, pediatric cardiothoracic surgery, newborn airway programs, as well as being the referral center for central and eastern North Carolina. The Division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine currently consists of 13 faculty members and 7 fellows who are part of a fully accredited Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship Program. NIH-funded research projects include the ELGAN-ECHO Study, and participation in the NICHD Global Health Network, the Neonatal Research Network, and the Pediatric Trials Network.

The Division Chief reports directly to the Chair of the Department of Pediatrics. The Division Chief is responsible for leading a team of neonatologists and nurse practitioners in providing excellent clinical care, directing and expanding the strong research mission of the Division, mentoring early-career faculty and supporting the educational activities within the Division. Administrative responsibilities include supervision and recruitment of personnel, team building, budget management, and strategic planning. This position requires a physician leader who has a passion for providing outstanding care, the leadership to engage physicians, and the ability to promote an environment that supports diversity and inclusivity among faculty. Strong preference will be shown to candidates who are nationally known physician-scientists with evidence of administrative experience in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. Candidates with demonstrable leadership experience and substantial experience in the sub-specialty of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine are preferred. Rank will be commensurate with training, experience, and academic accomplishments.

Educational Requirements:

MD, Board Certification in Pediatrics and Sub-Board Certification in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine

Strong leadership, effective interpersonal, team-building, and communication skills are required.
