The Henry Madden Library invites applications for a temporary, part-time Catalog Librarian to organize and ensure access to the Library's resources. The individual will perform original cataloging and complex copy cataloging of print and/or non-print materials utilizing OCLC, and perform database maintenance of the online catalog.

Temporary part-time Librarian for the Henry Madden Library

Position Summary:

The Catalog Librarian will perform original and complex cataloging in multiple languages (preferably Portuguese) and formats. The Catalog Librarian will work on special projects, following national cataloging policies and standards, local procedures and workflows, and CSU-wide consortia-level cataloging policies and procedures such as those related to the shared Ex Libris Alma/Primo Unified Library Management System (ULMS). The person in this position will work closely with the faculty and staff in the Library Technology and Collection Management Division.

Conditional Appointment

Please be advised that an appointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to the order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between California State University and California Faculty Association. These provisions state the “Order of Work,” or the order in which available courses must be assigned to faculty, starting with tenure-line faculty and ending with new lecturer appointees.

Salary Range

Commensurate with experience.

Anticipated Semester

The temporary faculty pool is continuously open, and positions are filled as needed, enrollment and funding. This is a pool of part-time librarian for the department to draw on as necessary. Appointments from the pool are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term. The pool will remain in place for two academic terms; those interested in remaining in the pool beyond that time must reapply.
  • The Fall term begins in late August and ends in mid-December;
  • The Spring term begins mid-January and ends in late May;
  • The primary location will be on-campus once Fresno State repopulates according to CDC guidelines.
  • Appointees will be required to demonstrate eligibility to work in the United States.

Required Qualifications:

Education:
  1. ALA-accredited Master's degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent.

Experience:
  1. One year of post-MLIS cataloging experience
  2. Demonstrated working knowledge of RDA, LCCS, LCSH, and MARC 21
  3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with a diverse population of colleagues and library stakeholders
  4. Experience cataloging using the OCLC bibliographic utility
  5. Experience using a library services platform (preferably Ex Libris' Alma)
  6. Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:
  1. A commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, which may be exhibited through prior teaching experiences and teaching evaluations or other evidence.
  2. Demonstrated experience cataloging a range of material formats
  3. Demonstrated experience cataloging in Portuguese
  4. Current awareness of new trends and emerging technologies in cataloging and technical services
  5. Excellent analytical and pro-active problem solving, organizational, and project management skills
  6. Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with others
  7. Ability to adapt to rapid change and to exercise creativity and initiative
  8. Ability to switch from one project to another
  9. Awareness and engagement with critical concerns in the discipline
  10. Active involvement in professional development activities
