The University of Georgia (UGA), a land-grant and sea-grant university with statewide commitments and responsibilities is the state’s oldest, most comprehensive, and most diversified institution of higher education (http://www.uga.edu/). UGA is currently ranked among the top 20 public universities in U.S. News & World Report. The University’s main campus is located in Athens, approximately 65 miles northeast of Atlanta, with extended campuses in Atlanta, Griffin, Gwinnett, and Tifton. UGA was founded in 1785 by the Georgia General Assembly as the first state-chartered University in the country. UGA employs approximately 1,800 full-time instructional faculty and more than 7,600 full-time staff. The University’s enrollment exceeds 36,000 students including over 27,500 undergraduates and over 8,500 graduate and professional students. Academic programs reside in 17 schools and colleges, as well as a medical partnership with Augusta University housed on the UGA Health Sciences Campus in Athens.About the College/Unit/Department:
The Center for Tropical and Emerging Global Diseases (CTEGD) at the University of Georgia is one of the largest international centers of research focused on diseases of poverty. Researchers and students work together on some of the most important causes of human suffering around the world, including malaria, schistosomiasis, African sleeping sickness, Chagas disease, cryptosporidiosis, toxoplasmosis, leishmaniasis, and filariasis.College/Unit/Department website:

Post-Doctoral Associate ACFTE:
A post-doctoral research position is available immediately in the Kissinger Research Group. This Post-doctoral fellow position will provide support for a recently awarded 4-yr project NIH R01 – “Capturing the genomic variation present in Cryptosporidium and cryptosporidiosis”. Work will be performed primarily with collaborators in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. The major focus of the project is to conduct innovative research through capture enrichment whole genome sequencing and bioinformatics analyses of the resulting sequence to understand the global population genetic structure and variation during outbreak and seasonal scenarios of human-infecting Cryptosporidium which is the 2nd leading cause of severe diarrhea and mortality in young children in Africa and Southern Asia. d 1 sy.m il c md.Qualified candidates should submit a detailed curriculum vitae, including descriptions of laboratory experience, responsibilities, and/or pertinent recent coursework; a short cover letter outlining research interests, research experience, and future goals; and the names of at least 3 scientists or faculty as references (with contact information, including e-mail addresses and phone numbers).Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position:
Highly motivated candidates who have a strong background in molecular biology, genomics, computational biology, and disease ecology research are encouraged to apply.
