Position Emphasis:

The Department of Medicine, Division of Medical Oncology has a faculty opening for a full- time Assistant Professor within the University of Colorado Cancer Center (UCCC) in the multidisciplinary Cutaneous Oncology Program in Aurora, Colorado. The UCCC is an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center within a matrix organization consisting of several institutions including the University of Colorado Denver Anschutz Medical Campus, University of Colorado Hospital (UCH), the Denver VA Medical Center, and Denver Health and Hospital. The School of Medicine is one of the top 5 public institutions in NIH grant support with over $600M in annual funding. The Division of Medical Oncology consists of a diverse group of clinicians and basic science faculty, clinical and research trainees, research laboratory technicians, students, administrative assistants and administrators. The mission of the Division of Medical Oncology (DMO) is to provide outstanding care to our cancer

patients; to conduct high quality basic, translational, and clinical research; and to provide excellent teaching opportunities for basic and clinical trainees. We believe that an interactive, collaborative scientific environment is critical in achieving our goals and in making major advances in cancer therapy.

Duties:

The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is recruiting in the Division of Medical Oncology, Department of Medicine for an Assistant Professor with interest in cutaneous oncology clinical/translational research and patient care. The Assistant Professor will be an active participant in the multidisciplinary Cutaneous Oncology Program. The final candidate will be expected to participate in the clinical program which includes five weekly clinics, a multidisciplinary tumor board, research conferences, and interactions with multiple surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, interventional radiologists, and pathologists (including in-house molecular testing). The program includes full-service consult and follow-up clinics, and an infusion center.  Duties and responsibilities will include direct patient care and clinical research. The final candidate will attend on the inpatient Oncology/Hematology ward at UCH for 2-4 weeks yearly and will hold a minimum of 4 half-day clinics per week with mentoring of Medical Oncology fellows. The position can be restructured if the qualified candidate wishes to pursue a combination of clinical work and laboratory-based research. Opportunities exist for K12 or other career development grants. We are supported by a nursing staff, nurse practitioner, clinical pharmacist as well as several clinical research associates. The Cutaneous Oncology Tissue Bank actively processes and stores samples. Strong collaborations exist with the phase I program. This position will report to and receive supervision from Dr. Wells Messersmith, Division Head.

This position is at the Assistant Professor level within the Medical Oncology Division, Department of Medicine. The Assistant Professor will be an active participant in the Melanoma Program. Participants in programs are involved in direct patient care, clinical research, and, as needed, laboratory and translational research.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range for this position has been established at $186,000 - $220,000. 

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Licensed MD or DO from accredited Institution in U.S., or equivalent, if a non-U.S. graduate, must complete ECFMG certification & be qualified to obtain a temporary CO Medical license.
  • Eligible to be credentialed by the institutional processes established for oversight for advanced professional medical practice.
  • Board certified in Internal Medicine and board eligible or board certified in Medical Oncology &/or Hematology. 
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prefer experience in Medical Oncology and/or Hematology.
Competencies:

  • The candidate must have excellent clinical skills pertaining to medical oncology in general and cutaneous oncology in particular and a proven track -record in clinical and/or correlative laboratory-based oncology research, including clinical protocol development.
