Faculty Tenure Track - Computer Information Systems

Job description

Under the direction of the Dean of STEM Division and collaboratively with the faculty of the Computer Information Systems department, we are seeking a candidate to help provide student-centered instruction within our CIS department, as well as serve as a partner in helping to guide the department’s future. HCC exists to meet the needs of a wide variety of students, ranging from current professionals looking to expand on their industry knowledge, to recent high school graduates entering college for the first time, to adult learners returning to college for a change in career. The strength of a community college, and of HCC in particular, comes from the diversity of our population, and we are seeking a candidate to help harness that strength to create an inclusive classroom environment which serves the educational needs of students from a variety of populations.

  • Class preparation incorporating a wide variety of teaching methods and modalities, including lab time, lecture, and online instruction.
  • Develops and updates curriculum to meet the ever-changing needs of industry.
  • Serves as an academic advisor to students.
  • Maintains professional expertise in areas of specialization.
  • Active support of CIS programs designed to recruit, maintain, and graduate students from a variety of populations.
  • Assists in the development of pathways into credit programs and transfer institutions.
  • Active participation in committees related to college and departmental initiatives.
  • Attends departmental, divisional, and college meetings.
  • Qualifications

    REQUIRED:

    Master’s degree in computer information systems, computer science or related field combined with a minimum of two years related experience OR a Bachelor’s degree in related field combined with significant related work experience; Ability to teach foundational CIS courses, in addition to courses related to at least two of the following areas: Computer security, Systems administration, Data science, Programming (desktop, web, mobile), Network administration, Operating Systems; Excellent written and oral communication skills; Ability to integrate computer technology into instruction; Commitment to and understanding of the mission of the community college; Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student body.


    NOTE: A teaching demonstration will be a required part of the interview process.

    PREFERRED:
    Teaching or technical training experience; Experience in delivering courses via distance and web-based instruction; Administrative experience; Experience with grant writing.

    Start Date: Fall, 2021
