Job Summary

Job Posting for Instructor of English

SSU invites applications for a full-time instructor in English to teach freshman composition courses. The successful candidate will teach 12-15 hours per semester of first-year English, including ENGL 0999, ENGL 1101, and/or ENGL 1102.

Minimum qualifications: M.A. in English or M.A. in a related field with at least 18 graduate credit hours in English. Experience teaching college-level writing courses.

Preferred qualifications: M.A. or Ph.D. in English. Experience teaching college-level English classes. Experience and/or credentialing in teaching developmental or learning support courses in English to college learners.

Candidates must supply a curriculum vita, statement of teaching philosophy, copies of their graduate transcripts, and the names and contact information for three professional references who can speak to the applicant’s qualifications for teaching college writing.

In addition to the minimum qualifications listed for this position, the prospective candidate is expected to demonstrate the following characteristics:

    Commitment to student retention and success. Commitment to development and assessment of student learning.Willingness to support a diverse population of learners.Ability to work in a participatory and collegial setting.Excellent interpersonal/human relations skills, demonstrated excellent oral and written communications skills.Experience with online learning management systems.Experience with online communication resources (i.e. Microsoft Teams, WebEx).
