Job Description:

This position is a critical part of the UF Division of Enrollment Management communications team. The web developer is responsible for the architecture, development and maintenance of high profile websites for the division, as well as for the offices of the registrar, admissions, enrollment management, and veterans services. The position functions as the webmaster for the division, managing web projects from start to finish, including development testing (dev/test) servers, deployment, quality control and support; enforces standards and usability guidance ensuring websites are responsive across all platforms and accessible to all users, including those with disabilities; and provides EM managers with analytical reports of website traffic using Google Analytics. This position will collaborate with graphic designers and other communications specialists, and assist with managing student design assistants by prioritizing and assigning tasks to create an efficient workflow. The incumbent is expected to work independently with minimal supervision.

Web Development: Will serve as the division webmaster, leading the full cycle of web site development, from the architecture, coding, implementing, testing, and deployment. Understands UF branding initiatives. Expert knowledge of modern coding standards and best practices, including WCAG web standards.

Web Maintenance: Continually evaluates the division’s multiple websites for content and visual updates. Some of the division’s websites have content changes occurring daily. Researches emerging web based technologies for continuous improvement of division’s websites.

Bug tracking: Works closely with customers and available IT support to identify flaws in website design. Identifies solutions and applies solution to website design.

Digital Asset Management: Helps to catalog the division’s digital assets and provide instructions to other staff and students to establish a metadata structure.

Writing for the web: Write and edit content for the web as needed. Incumbent should be a strong communicator who understands how to parse content for optimum web user experience.

Expected Salary:

$50,000 - $55,000 annually; commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization or an associate degree and two years of experience. Candidates should provide URL to show prior web work.

Preferred Qualifications:

Technical Skills: Proficient with HTML5, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS3), JavaScript and JS frameworks and libraries. Experience with Chart.js or similar. Proficient with HTML/CSS preprocessors and modular pattern libraries. Familiarity with server-side scripting languages, specifically PHP. Knowledge of Apache web server software. Experience working with GIT or version control software. Experience working with continuous integration (CI) tools such as CircleCI and Github actions. Proficient with Gulp.js. Proficient with browser developer tools and debugging. Proficient with Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, and auditing tools such as Lighthouse and Hotjar. Experience with task managers such as Asana.

Creative Skills: Experience with Adobe Creative Suite. Strong eye for detail in web design aesthetics; ability to design autonomously for smaller projects.

Communicate and Lead: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as strong leadership skills. Ability to write clear and concise text optimized for the web. Able to present proposed web changes to administrators and other staff in meetings. Comfortable giving presentations, conducting meetings and performing training sessions.

Strong organizational skills: Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.

Independent worker: Ability to interact technically with network support staff and any application vendors. Ability to fully manage the website needs of the division with minimal supervision.

Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to interact with staff at all levels.
