The University of Oregon Vivian Olum Child Development Center is seeking an Assistant Director of its Lower School classrooms. The Lower School Assistant Director is a key member of the administrative team responsible for managing the Center’s programs and operations.

ABOUT THE POSITION: This Assistant Director is responsible for managing four classrooms serving ages 12 weeks through 3 years), which includes hiring, onboarding, supervision, coaching and performance management of these classes’ teaching staff; serving as substitute director on-site when necessary; maintaining effective relationships with parents and families; and performing a diverse range of duties related to ensuring the center’s smooth operations and day-to-day success. The Assistant Director works as a member of the administrative team and also operates with a high degree of independence.

ABOUT OUR CENTER: The Vivian Olum Child Development Center is in the heart of the beautiful and well-maintained 295-acre University of Oregon campus. Typically, our center serves up to 110 children – primarily those of university faculty and staff – aged 12 weeks through elementary school – by providing a foundation of experiences that foster growth and development of children and a safe and nurturing environment. The center curriculum is both emergent and constructivist, and is highly individualized, especially for our youngest children.

The center has successfully adapted its operations to COVID-19 this fall by reducing the number of children served, focusing on infants through pre-K, and maintaining small stable groups of children and teachers.
