The ideal candidate will share Clovis Community College’s commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. As Fall 2020, we currently enroll over 13,500 students in which 45% identify as Latinx, 12% as Asian/Pacific Islander, 3% as Black/African American, 32% as White, 1% as American Indian/Alaska Native, and 5% as multiracial. The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to the use of curriculum responsive to the students it serves.
Providing instruction in Business on the Clovis Community College campus and/or at off-site community campus locations, the instruction will be responsible for:
- Teaching a full schedule of courses, including but not limited to business law, business statistics, business & finite math, and other related disciplines(assignments may include lecture and lab components);
- Working with other faculty on program planning and participating in program development and expansion of business courses, programs, and pathways, including building connections with local and regional industry and adult education partners;
- Promoting student success by assisting students in obtaining certificates, degrees, transfer or employment in business;
- Advising students in both group and individual contact on academic and career goals in Business and Accounting;
- Communicating effectively with students and staff and maintaining effective working relationships;
- Collaborating with discipline faculty and across the college to implement guided pathways concepts in order to promote student success and completion;
- Participating in outreach activities and events with evening and weekend commitments;
- Coordinating and conducting regular advisory committee meetings as per Perkins Grant requirements for CTE disciplines;
- Meeting regularly and collaborating with discipline/division peers;
- Participating on local committees related to business, and partnering with stakeholders;
- Serving on and attending department, college, and district committees as needed;
- Participating in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning;
- Teaching assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evenings and/or weekends, on-line or off-campus and large group instruction classes as needed; and
- Otherwise fulfilling other duties as and responsibilities of instructions as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom; AND
- Master’s in business, management, business administration, accountancy, finance, marketing or business education;
- A bachelor’s in any of the above AND master’s in economics, personnel management, public administration, or Juris Doctorate (J.D.) or Legum Baccalaureus (LL.B.);
- A bachelor’s in economics with a business emphasis AND master’s in personnel management, public administration, or Juris Doctor (J.D.) or Legum Baccalaureus (LL.B.);
- A valid California Community College Credential;
- The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

- Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility;
- Recent experience working with African American, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;
- Willingness to examine and remediate one’s relational practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;
- Experience working with a diverse student population;
- Master’s in business administration with a finance option or a law degree;
- Broad-based academic preparation in business, with relevant work experience;
- Professional competency as evidenced by successful work experience and/or higher education teaching experience in business;
- A minimum of five years successful, professional work experience in the business field (accounting, finance, management, entrepreneurship, etc.) with at least two years in a supervisory/management position;
- Ability and desire to teach the breadth of the department’s course offering, excluding office technology courses;
- Demonstrated ability to design and implement innovative teaching methodologies;
- Background and specialized training/expertise in business;
- Commitment to interacting and working successfully as a team with instructions and other colleagues;
- Ability to develop curriculum and programs in emerging areas;
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to the total operation of the instructional program, including department, division, and college responsibilities;
- Demonstrated ability to adapt instructional techniques to accommodate varied learning styles and a variety of teaching modalities, including distance learning;
- Experience advising students individually or in groups;
- Knowledge and experience in the development and assessment of student and program learning outcomes, student success initiatives, and accreditation;
- Knowledge of current assessment methods and materials;
- Understanding of employer needs within the industry;
- Familiarity with current educational technology and multimedia presentation software;
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff;
- Membership in professional organizations;
- Related work and professional experience;
- Potential for contribution to institutional vitality and growth; and
- Knowledge of the mission and goals of the community college.
177 duty days per year.Salary and Benefits:
Starting salary is $57,750 – $86,942 based on education and experience. A doctoral stipend of $2,160 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teacher’s Retirement System (CalSTRS).Selection Procedure:
Applications will be screened by Human Resources for completeness and to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.
From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents by the closing date and time listed on the job announcement, a selection committee will review the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications then determine who will be invited to interview.
The selection committee will rate responses to the interview questions, teaching demonstration, and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the “recommended candidates”. These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President and College President for final interviews.
A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.
