TITLE: Assistant Coach Men’s/Women’s Track/Cross Country DEPARTMENT: Athletics – Track/Cross Country REPORTS TO: Athletic Director EFFECTIVE DATE: TBDEMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-timeEMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Exempt PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
Under general supervision, assists with coaching duties for the Men’s and Women’s intercollegiate track & field and cross country programs, operating under NCAA bylaws. Assists the Head Coach with recruitment, training, and scheduling for athletic competition, as assigned. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Assists head coach in organizing, preparing, and conducting individual and team practices, training, and competition.Assists in the identification and recruitment of potential student-athletes for the track & field and cross country program, in accordance with SIAC and NCAA rules, regulations, guidelines, and standards.Coordinates one or more specified areas or components of team competition (e.g.: distance, sprints, throws and/or various other running and field events).Provides guidance and assistance to student-athletes on a range of issues, as required.Leads, monitors, and coordinates training and practice sessions, ensuring that all appropriate safety guidelines and standards are maintained.Provides assistance in the coordination and administration of the overall programs and schedule, as required.Represents the sports program to various institutional programs and externally to the media, government agencies, funding agencies, students, parents, and the general public.Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. OTHER DUTIES:
Perform other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree with 1 to 3 years’ experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES: Knowledge of applicable events and competition rules.Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.Demonstrated competitive coaching skills in area of sporting specialty.Knowledge of NCAA student-athlete academic eligibility requirements.Knowledge of NCAA rules.Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.Knowledge of travel/lodging planning and scheduling.Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.Organizing and coordinating skills. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
This position does not have any supervisory responsibility. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
:Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.Moderate physical effort. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 20 pounds or some standing or walking. Effort applies to no more than six (6) hours per day.Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks, such as operating dangerous equipment or working with chemicals.
