The Department of Special Education, Counseling, and Student Affairs in the College of Education at Kansas State University (K-State) invites applications for a 9-month term (non-tenure track) position as teaching assistant professor of counseling and higher education. The position offers the successful candidate an opportunity to collaborate with award-winning colleagues while teaching graduate courses and advising graduate students in several different program areas: counseling, college student development, and/or academic advising.

The Department of Special Education, Counseling, and Student Affairs is one of three departments in the College of Education, which is dedicated to “Preparing educators to be knowledgeable, ethical, caring decision makers.” The M.S. in School Counseling and Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision programs are CACREP and CAEP accredited. The M.S. in College Student Development program prepares students for entry-level roles in student affairs, and the online M.S. in Academic Advising attracts students from all over the world. Responsibilities

The position involves teaching graduate courses in the M.S. in School Counseling and Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision programs, the M.S. in College Student Development program, and/or the M.S. in Academic Advising program. The coures in these programs are offered in various modalities, including in-person, online, and blended. The successful candidate will teach four courses each semester with the possibility of summer teaching if desired and needed. Other responsibilities include advising graduate students, providing service, participating in faculty governance, and being involved with relevant professional associations.

Required Qualifications

Earned doctorate from a CACREP-accredited Counselor Education program (by May 2021)

Licensed as a counselor (by August 2021)

Evidence of work experience in counseling, college student development, academic advising, and/or a related area of higher education

Potential for excellence in instruction and advising, both on-campus and online

Ability to implement and integrate instructional technology in learning management systems

Commitment to working with and supporting diverse populations and to pursuing equity and social justice

Active membership in at least one professional association

Preferred Qualifications

Three to five years of professional experience as a counselor and/or in a higher education role

Record of university teaching experience

Experience developing and teaching both on-campus and online courses

Experience advising graduate students

Leadership in professional associations
