The College of Applied Studies at Florida State University houses a Public Safety and Security Program, which offers Bachelor’s Degrees in Law Enforcement Intelligence, Crime Scene Investigation, and Law Enforcement Operations, as well as a Master’s Degree in Law Enforcement Intelligence. All Public Safety programs in the College of Applied Studies emphasize the application of integral security, intelligence, and investigative skills to allow students to succeed in the public safety profession. Students in the Public Safety and Security program take courses from experts with specialized, applied experiences across public safety sectors, and they have the opportunity to engage in experiential learning experiences and focused coursework to fit their career interests.

We invite applications for a Teaching Faculty position in our Public Safety and Security Program at the FSU Panama City campus in Panama City, FL. This position is being advertised as a 9- or 12-month, full-time, specialized, non-tenure track teaching faculty position with opportunities for promotion and multi-year contracts. The position will begin in Fall 2021 and consideration will be provided for an earlier start date if circumstances warrant it.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities are flexible depending on the qualifications of the candidate and include some combination of:
a) Teaching graduate-level courses in the department’s MS program in Law Enforcement Intelligence and undergraduate courses in the Public Safety programs,
b) Mentoring and working closely with students, and
c) Engaging in service to the program and campus.

Additional leadership and administrative opportunities are possible, if qualifications allow, as a coordinator or director of the Public Safety and Security Program and engagement in research is possible, though research is not a required component of the teaching faculty position. Qualifications

PhD in Public Safety, Criminology, or related field from an accredited institution (must be conferred by start date of the position) or terminal degree (JD, EdD, etc.) with additional related graduate coursework and applied experiences.

Preferred

Preference will be given to those with previous university teaching experience (both online and face-to-face) who can teach a variety of law enforcement intelligence and public safety courses, that could include topics like: cyber threat intelligence/analysis, intelligence collection and analysis, advanced evidentiary reasoning, crime scene investigation, forensic science, and law enforcement operations (to view a list of FSU Public Safety and Security courses, please visit https://registrar.fsu.edu/bulletin/undergraduate/departments/public_safety/). Applied experience in the Public Safety field and university administrative experience as a coordinator or director of a related program is highly preferred. Applied or teaching experience in Computer or Cyber crime investigation also highly preferred.
