Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry ( features an extremely supportive and collegial environment with 15 full-time faculty and a diverse student body. We offer a BS in Biochemistry, a BA, BS, and MS in Chemistry including biochemistry options, and a PhD in Medicinal Biochemistry. Our department is housed in a 170,000 square foot, $35 million state of the art science building. Excellent core instrumentation and state of the art facilities for NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry with full time support staff are available on site.

Position Summary:

This is an opening for a Post-Doctoral Fellow position in the Cech lab ( Candidate must have the expertise and interest in developing and applying novel methodologies at the interface of mass spectrometry and natural products research. Experience with mass spectrometry metabolomics experimental design and data analysis and/or expertise in the isolation and de-novo structure elucidation of natural products are desirable characteristics. A willingness and ability to contribute to a team-oriented research environment, participate in student training, and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, are essential.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. in mass spectrometry, analytical chemistry, medicinal chemistry, phytochemistry, pharmacognosy, and/or natural products chemistry or will have earned before hire date a Ph.D. in mass spectrometry, analytical chemistry, medicinal chemistry, phytochemistry, pharmacognosy, and/or natural products chemistry.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D. in mass spectrometry, analytical chemistry, medicinal chemistry, phytochemistry, pharmacognosy, and/or natural products chemistry.

Essential Tasks:

Conduct original research in the area of inorganic/bioinorganic chemistry. Design and carry out experiments leading to the synthesis and study of the relevant molecules/systems.

Prepare and present updates on ongoing research, provide written reports on research progress, participate in group meetings and present seminars to scientific community when asked. Contribute to the preparation and submission of reports, proposals and publications related to research.

Mentorship: Support Graduate and Undergraduate Students

Essential Tasks:

Assist with supervision of graduate and undergraduate students with their research projects. Provide leadership and training to students on proper procedures for all instruments, their maintenance and safety regulations in the laboratory setting.
