The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor position in the non-tenure academic clinician track. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree. The successful applicant will have a qualified (CAMPEP Accredited) residency training experience in the field of Medical Physics. ABR board certification in therapeutic radiological physics is preferred and expected within the first two years in this position.

Teaching responsibilities may include the teaching and training of radiation oncology residents, medical physics residents, medical physics graduate students, visiting scientists or trainees from other institutions or other countries, etc. Other informal and formal teachings include, but not limited to, participating in resident didactic series, both as a lecturer and as an in-person discussant. Participation in the Medical Physics Graduate Programs at Perelman School of Medicine is expected.

Clinical responsibilities may include supporting a full range of clinical physics activities, such as proton therapy, linac-based radiation therapy, brachytherapy, etc. at the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine.

The Radiation Oncology clinic, located in the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine, includes five Varian linacs (3 Truebeams, 2Halcyons), a Varian HDR unit installed alongside a Varian Acuity Simulator, two Siemens dual-energy CT simulators, a Siemens wide-bore MRI unit and a Philips wide bore PET/CT unit. We provide a full range of radiation oncology services (IMRT, proton therapy, brachytherapy, TBI, SRS, and SBRT) and have an active development program in all aspects of radiotherapy physics. We are also active in photodynamic therapy research. The Roberts Proton Therapy Center opened in the fall of 2009 and is integrated with the photon therapy clinic. It houses the largest proton therapy facility in the USA, comprising four gantry treatment rooms, one fixed beam room, and a dedicated research room. The existing facility has been fully upgraded to the latest pencil beam scanning technology with in-room CBCT and motion management capabilities. Several single-room proton treatment centers are planned at Penn Network facilities, which will open in 2021.
