Job Description Summary
Research technician position in the Laboratory of Matthew Good in the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Responsibilities include 50% laboratory management and 50% supervised research. Minimum B.A. or B.S. in biology, chemistry, bioengineering or related field and 1 year laboratory experience.

Job Description

Join the research group of Prof. Matthew Good at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. The Good laboratory is interested in two fundamental areas: (1) How cells sense and regulate their dimensions and the consequences of cell size alteration on tumorigenesis and early embryo development, and (2) Membraneless organelles: how disordered proteins self-assemble into biomolecular condensates and compartmentalize subcellular processes. To address these topics, we utilize model vertebrate and mammalian model systems, leveraging molecular biology, cell biology biochemistry techniques along with cutting-edge imaging. We also work with the Penn Biobank to characterize the pathology of cell size dysregulation in tissue specimens. The broader significance of this research is that improper regulation of cell and organelle size are linked to human developmental disorders, cellular senescence, neurodegeneration, and cancer progression. All previous technicians have successfully matriculated to medical school or graduate school

Responsibilities: 50% research, 50% lab support
  • Perform Independent research under the guidance of the PI, to include experimental design and execution, maintenance of lab notebooks, analyze data, etc - 45%
  • Overall lab support: maintaining the lab stock supply, placing orders as needed, prepare common solutions - 30%
  • Present results at lab meetings and collaborate with lab to advance projects for publication - 10%
  • Frog colony management and ensuring compliance with IACUC 10%
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned - 5%


Requirements
  • B.S. or B.A. in biology, chemistry, bioengineering, or related field (or degree completion by June 2020).
  • Minimum 1 year of previous research lab experience. Experience with molecular biology, cell culture, biochemistry (protein expression and purification) and fluorescence microscopy is a plus
  • Excellent communication and computer skills
