Salary Range: $80,000 - 85,000 DEAN, School of Health and Safety

Position Purpose
Under the direct supervision of the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Workforce Development, provides academic unit leadership in support of learning and learner success. Specific duties are: Provides leadership and support to faculty and staff assigned to unit; Collaborates to develop, implement, and evaluate learning experiences. Builds and nurtures relationships with other College units and the external community; Manages resources; Maintains approval and accreditation of unit programs. The dean shall have the authority, accountability, and responsibility for all aspects of the program.

PROVIDES LEADERSHIP AND SUPPORT TO FACULTY AND STAFF ASSIGNED TO ALL ACADEMIC PROGRAMS WITHIN NURSING, ALLIED HEALTH, AND PUBLIC SAFETY SERVICES: Hire high quality individuals; Assure orientation; Evaluate and provide feedback; Foster development/build capacity; Encourage innovation, creativity and empowered decision-making; Foster climate of mutual respect, collaboration, and shared vision and goals; Model professional development and balanced commitment to students and caring for self; Promote open communication; Advocate for students, faculty, staff, programs, and schools; Activity participate in AAC and Academic Affairs initiatives.

COLLABORATES TO DEVELOP, IMPLEMENT, AND EVALUATE LEARNING EXPERIENCES:

COLLABORATES TO DEVELOP, IMPLEMENT, AND EVALUATE LEARNING EXPERIENCES: Work with community of interest to develop and maintain relevant and vital curriculum; Oversee the assessment of student academic achievement; Systematically review curriculums in light of program outcome data and feedback from community of interest; Ensure quality advisement for students; Help students solve problems and assist students in getting help as needed; Encourage the use of powerful pedagogies; Oversee scheduling of courses and assignment of faculty; Grant graduation approval; and Participate in the celebrations of learner success.

BUILDS AND NUTURES RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER COLLEGE UNITS AND THE EXTERNAL COMMUNITY:

BUILDS AND NUTURES RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER COLLEGE UNITS AND THE EXTERNAL COMMUNITY: Participate in cross unit committees and projects; Facilitate advisory committee involvement in all programs within the unit; Participate in community and professional advisory groups and functions, and professional affiliations; Provide information for news releases as appropriate; Participate in partnerships with other colleges.

MANAGES RESOURCES:

MANAGES RESOURCES: Develop goals, objectives and action plans; Monitor capacity to foster learner success; manage budgetary allotments to assure that resources (technology, human resources, learning resources) are adequate to meet learning needs; Interpret and implement policies, procedures, and union contracts; Evaluate quality of services; Monitor sites for effective learning experiences in collaboration with the faculty; Develop and maintain affiliation contracts; Collaborate in support of recruitment, retention, and articulation; Build and nurture community and donor relationships.

MAINTAINS APPROVAL AND ACCREDITATION OF UNIT PROGRAMS:

MAINTAINS APPROVAL AND ACCREDITATION OF UNIT PROGRAMS: Maintain program records; File appropriate approval and accreditation reports in collaboration with program coordinators.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

  • Completion of an approved registered nursing education program in a jurisdiction as defined in paragraph (P) of rule 4723-01 of the Administrative Code
  • Experience for at least five years in the practice of nursing as a registered nurse, two of which has been as a faculty member in a registered nursing education program.
  • A Master’s degree with a major in nursing
  • Current, valid licensure as a registered nurse in Ohio.
