Job Description

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Missouri-Columbia has a postdoctoral research position available immediately. The postdoctoral researcher will study how sediment (suspended and deposited) relevant to the construction and maintenance of transportation infrastructure could impact freshwater mussels, especially for those endangered or threatened species, and what mitigation approaches can be developed and adapted to minimize such impacts. This project is in collaboration with US Geological Survey (USGS) Columbia Environmental Research Center and Missouri State University. This project will require a transdisciplinary approach to characterize sediment processes and how these processes influence or interfere with physiology of freshwater mussels. Therefore, candidates who can communicate with and across multiple disciplines is highly desirable.

Qualifications

The qualified candidate should have a Ph.D. degree in environmental engineering, ecology, aquatic biology, fisheries or related fields. Experience working with freshwater mussels and data analysis as well as experience in sediment geomorphology/soil sicence is a plus.
