Assistant Professor: Motor Control and Development

Job description

The School of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences (ENS) at San Diego State University is searching for a full-time (10-month) tenure-track faculty member in the area of motor control, movement neuroscience, motor learning, or neuromuscular recovery. This position will be at the Assistant Professor rank and will begin August 2021. An earned academic doctorate (Ph.D. preferred) in motor control, motor learning, neuroscience, rehabilitation science, or related field is required. Research expertise on central or peripheral nervous system control of movements across the lifespan and/or among individuals with physical disabilities is desirable. The ideal candidate will have the potential for building relationships with existing faculty in the School of ENS and collaborations among outside centers and departments, such as: engineering, rehabilitation, neuroscience, and/or neuroimaging (fMRI, MRI, EEG). Teaching responsibilities may include undergraduate and/or graduate courses in the areas of motor learning and control, biomechanics, kinetics, and kinematics. Supervision of M.S. degree students in exercise physiology and/or nutritional sciences is expected.

The School of ENS is in the College of Health and Human Services, one of seven colleges at San Diego State University. The School offers B.S. degrees in Kinesiology (with emphasis areas in Pre-Physical Therapy, Fitness Specialist, and Exercise Science Generalist), Athletic Training, and Foods and Nutrition; M.S. degrees in Exercise Physiology, Nutritional Sciences, and a dual M.S. degree in Exercise Physiology and Nutritional Sciences; and a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree.
