Position: 
Cluster Hire for Tenure Track Faculty in Graphic Design

Qualifications:
The School of Art and Design at San Diego State University invites applications for an assistant professor tenure track position in Graphic Design as part of a cluster hire to support the African American community. The successful candidate will teach graphic design classes including UX/UI Design, Web Development, Creative Coding, Interactive Media Design, and work with faculty to develop new courses. Applicants must be well versed in global design issues and be committed to interdisciplinary and collaborative approaches to teaching and learning. The committee gives preference to candidates who have worked in areas connected to the African American and African diasporas, and also show a strong record in teaching and/or service with Black populations. The successful candidate will share administrative responsibilities in the School of Art and Design and should manifest strong qualities of professionalism and collegiality.

A terminal degree in graphic design, visual studies or interactive media is required. Strong verbal and written communication is necessary. A minimum of two years’ teaching experience is preferred. Candidate will show potential for continuous, ongoing, productive professional growth through published and/or other types of peer-reviewable research.

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will have full time faculty instruction responsibilities teaching undergraduate and graduate-level courses; provide critical insight and direct advanced undergraduate and graduate student research; and contribute to program and Schoolwide curriculum development. Faculty represent the School of Art and Design at community events, participate in service-oriented activities within the university community and the community-at-large, remain active in the profession and in appropriate professional organizations. Every faculty member is expected to assume a fair share of responsibility for non-classroom activities, in order to enhance the collegiality and effectiveness of the School, College, and University, and to promote the stature of SDSU in the community.

  7. Has interest in developing expertise in cross-cultural communication and collaboration
  8. Has research interests that contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education

The School of Art and Design has 15 full-time faculty members and is part of the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts. Approximately 850 Art majors are currently enrolled in the School's undergraduate and graduate programs. The School offers the Bachelor's degree in Art with emphases in studio arts and design; the Master's and Master of Fine Arts degrees in Art with concentrations in studio arts and design; as well as the Bachelor's degree in Art History.
