Position Highlights:

The Department of Geosciences seeks a postdoctoral research associate to work as part of a collaborative team to better understand the zirconium stable isotope composition of different terrestrial reservoirs, and how these compositions are impacted by high-temperature petrologic processes. Under the direction of Professor Mauricio Ibanez-Mejia, the postdoctoral researcher will be expected to perform wet-chemistry laboratory work in a clean room environment, collect data using mass spectrometry methods, and synthesize results for presentations at conferences and publications in peer-reviewed journals. This is a year-to-year position. Renewal of the position is subject to satisfactory performance and the availability of funding.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Duties include:

- Perform Zr elemental purification from geologic samples in the clean lab
- Collect and analyze isotopic data using mass spectrometric methods
- Develop and apply quantitative models for understanding Zr isotope variability and fractionations
- Help design and participate in field work efforts
- Help train and support graduate students and visitors in the clean lab and mass spectrometers
- Interpret results and publish findings inpeer-reviewed journals

Minimum Qualifications:

Must have a doctorate degree completed in applicable field before hire date.
Must have demonstrable experience working in aclean room environment for isotope geochemistry research.
