Position Highlights:

The Department of Medicine at The University of Arizona is seeking a Research Assistant Professor to design, develop, and conduct experiments in the field of allergic airway disease and asthma. The selected candidate should have previous experience performing pulmonary research, with strong expertise in the area of mouse model techniques, including colony management, surgery, and airway resistance measurements. The applicant will preferably possess a broad repertoire of laboratory skills with special emphasis on immunology, molecular, and cell biology techniques. The expectation is that this person will perform independent research, publish in scientific journals, maintain knowledge of current and emerging literature, apply for internal/external grant funding, and present original work at scientific conferences. The lab has several collaborations both within and external to the university, and the selected candidate should have good communication skills and be comfortable working individually and in a team atmosphere.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and implement projects as approved by the Principal Investigator.
  • Create, draft, and revise scientific publications.
  • Apply for internal and external funding opportunities.
  • Perform a variety of mouse laboratory duties including colony management, surgery, cytokine evaluation, and airway resistance measurements.
  • Perform general laboratory techniques including mammalian cell culture, DNA/RNA extraction, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, western blotting, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, and ELISA.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in biology, chemistry, physiology, or a related scientific discipline with at least 3 years of postdoctoral training.
  • Previous experience performing mouse model experiments, with a strong emphasis on animal surgery, stimulation, BAL retrieval, cell differentials, and airway resistance measurements.

Preferred Qualifications:

*Previous experience performing pulmonary research, particularly in allergic airway disease and asthma. *Strong laboratory background, including working knowledge of qPCR, standard gel electrophoresis, western blotting, immunostaining, and mammalian cell culture.
