Job Summary/Basic Function:

Job Summary:The Instructional Technologies Specialist works as a member of the Digital Learning team to provide administrative and technical support for instructional technologies such as blogs, wikis, clickers, lecture capture, exam tools, and the campus online learning management system in support of face-to-face, blended and fully online courses at Lamar University.

Essential Job Functions:
•Receives functional supervision from the Instructional Technology Manager in administering and supporting instructional technologies resources; blogs, wikis, clickers, interactive video and audio, and lecture capture
•Troubleshoots online course functionality such as discussion boards, surveys, quizzes, exams, course multimedia, and the integration of external computer applications and systems
•Provides ongoing assistance to instructional designers to ensure course accessibility accommodations are being met
•Resolves escalated issues and provides tier 1 (helpdesk) back-up support by responding in a timely manner to requests for assistance in using various instructional technologies
•Creates, updates, prioritizes, and tracks user problems using ticket system
•Assists with the creation and distribution of end user documentation (self-help resources, web content, etc.) and system documentation
•Works proactively and cooperatively with Instructional Development and the IT department to provide excellent customer service
•Assists with the review and maintenance of LU Online web presence
•Performs other duties as assigned.

Other duties may be assigned to this position on a regular or occasional basis to respond to needs of the university.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Education Required:Associates Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related discipline. Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Experience may substitute for a degree on 2:1 basis.

Minimum Experience Required:
2 years’ experience in technology field including experience in areas/disciplines such as use/management of Blackboard or another Learning Management System preferably in an educational setting, online presentation development, graphical layout, digital audio and video, and HTML coding and editing.

Key Competencies:
•Experience using LMS applications (Blackboard, Canvas, D2L or similar)
•Experience troubleshooting and resolving problems regarding the access and use of technologies/software
•Experience in utilizing instructional technology resources

Physical Requirements:
•Ability to lift 40 pounds and remain sedentary working at a desk for extended period of time.
•Current driver’s license and ability to travel.
