DescriptionPost-Doctoral Research Associate Position - Chemical Engineering

The applicant primarily will be responsible for working in a fast-paced and highly discovery driven approach in 3D Printing and high performance Coatings.  Work will involve an array of chemical and material preparation and testing tasks as well as 3D printing fabrication of devices and components.  Secondary work on materials analysis and characterization methods to probe molecular, macroscopic, and thermo-mechanical properties, is expected.

Specific tasks that will be carried out are:

    •    Synthesize nanocomposite materials.
    •    Test stability and thermo-mechanical properties of coatings and fabricated objects.
    •    Carry out stress tests and stability of 3D printed objects
    •    Prepare, build and test devices for actuation and sensors.
    •    Participate in design studies and troubleshooting of instruments.
    •    Implement and use methods such spectroscopy, spectro-electrochemistry, and microscopy for nanocomposite materials.

QualificationsPosition Requirements:

We are seeking qualified applicants with a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering or any related degrees, with strong synthesis skills and experience with a variety of hands-on instrumental analysis.  

A successful candidate must have each of the above skills.  Demonstrated synthesis skills for nanomaterials, polymer materials is desired, deployment of these for testing and analysis of stress-conditional behavior is expected. Demonstrated ability to integrate findings from various methods to develop a coherent and nuanced picture of performance is also important. In addition, it is desirable that the candidate have skills to participate in report writing, side projects, including experience with other materials preparation methods.

The candidate should also have good personal skills for working in a team environment. The candidate will contribute as part of a team of researchers working in concert to enable and execute this development.  

Salary:  $51,000 per year
