This position will primarily act as the Homeless and Foster Care Liaison Point of Contact for the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. This position will have an office at Lakeview High School and Angelo State University.
Specifically, the primary goal of the Program Coordinator is to increase enrollment, retention and completion rates of high at-risk/ vulnerable students. The position works with new and returning students using life skill coaching methods when necessary to provide referrals to internal and external resources. This position also works with university departments and external agencies in order to provide appropriate support services for homeless and foster care students.Typical Duties/Job Duties:
This position will also assist with initiatives and programs supported and/or hosted by the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.
1.Plans and organizes programs supporting the mission of the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.
2.Leads development and execution of the Foster Care Alumni program, including events and initiatives on and off campus.
3.Prepares purchase requisitions as necessary for programming and events.
4.Is involved with students by offering constant mentorship, organizing student events and building relationships with students that encourages success at ASU.
5.Meet with each student to assist with their needs (registration assistance, bill analysis, book selection, etc.)
•Meet with each student a minimum of once per semester.
•Meet with first year and risk students a minimum of four times throughout the year.
6.Maintains constant communication with students and their campus partners on and off campus to provide assistance and motivation to complete their goal.
7.Conduct grade/classroom performance assessments routinely.
8.Works closely with Lake View High School in creating a college going culture.
9.Works with administration, faculty and staff to identify barriers to success and develop programs to assist
students to overcome them.
10.Greets and maintains high levels of customer service addressing callers, students, parents, guests, coworkers, and university personnel.
11.Corresponds via email regarding departmental services and updates.
12.Participates in training activities as required or desired, including training specific to the Homeless and Foster Care Alumni program.
13.Provides training and supervision to student assistants in the Office of the Vice President for SAEM office.
14.Maintains administrative files, including but not limited to committee files, in an accurate and timely manner, ensures adherence to records maintenance, confidentiality, and related practices and policies.
15.Performs other duties as assigned.
• Knowledge of the Foster Care system and how to support youth formerly placed in the foster care system.
• Knowledge of federal and state designation of homeless students and support services available.
• Familiar with Life Skill Coaching and/or Case Management techniques.
•Knowledge of university admission requirements, federal and state financial aid, and support services.
• Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of constituents both orally and in writing.
An earned Bachelor’s degree is required.Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree is strongly preferred.Physical Requirements:
Requires prolonged period of sitting, occasional walking, and intermittent bending and standing; medium level of manual dexterity; occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.EEO Statement:
