Position Summary:

The Public Programming and Exhibition Assistant is responsible to the Exhibition Coordinator of the Special Collections Libraries for assisting in coordination of 30-40 in-person and virtual public programs and pop-up exhibits annually; management of the docent program, including the student docent program; promoting exhibits and programs on social media; providing research and reference service; and coordinating the annual Lillian Smith Book Award and Georgia Writers Hall of Fame events.

The Russell Special Collections Building is a 115,000 square foot facility opened in 2012 that provides collections storage, exhibition and event space, research and instruction rooms, staff work space, and digitization facilities for UGA’s three special collections libraries: The Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, the Richard B. Russell Library for Political Research and Studies, and the Walter J. Brown Media Archive and Peabody Awards Collection.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Coordinates in-person and virtual public programming for the Hargrett Library and Brown Media Archives including marketing, publicity and social media; collaborates with event partners, sponsors, guest speakers, and vendors.

Assists in managing the Special Collections Docent Program with 10-15 volunteers and the Student Docent Program with 8-10 student assistants; participates in 5-10 building tours each month.
