Educational and Experience Requirement:

Bachelor’s Degree in related field. Two years relevant specialist experience or experience in a related field. Experience in Higher Education and specialized work is desirable. Direct student affairs experience preferred. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

Nature & Purpose of Position:

Performs highly advanced specialist duties for the Division of Student Affairs.

Primary Responsibilities:

The Student Affairs Specialist will serve as the on-site representative for the Division of Student Affairs within the SHSU College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM). This person will help support the division’s goal of providing a seamless service experience for students within the COM. Coordinates administrative, personnel and logistical support for ongoing divisional programs or departments. Assists student leaders with training in leadership development, programming skills, policy development, budget development and marketing. Proctors accommodated exams for students registered with the Services for Students with Disabilities department. Serves as on-site event management for Student Affairs programs. Creates opportunities for exchange of ideas between the Division of Student Affairs and the COM. Makes recommendations for opportunities to foster collaboration and support between the two areas. Helps facilitate student participation in various programs and collaborative efforts. Represents the Division of Student Affairs at various COM meetings. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Specifications:

Requires detailed knowledge of University infrastructure, policies and procedures. Requires thorough knowledge of office systems. Must have the ability to solve operational problems and make suggestions for process improvement.
