About the Department:

Founded in 1966, the Center of Urban Affairs and Community Services (CUACS) extends the social, economic, and educational research capabilities of NC State University to governmental and community agencies. The Center operates under a mandate to provide research and technical assistance to state and local government as well as to the faculty and staff of NC State. CUACS collaborates in areas of mutual interest with state agencies to support issues of high priority.

Essential Job Duties:

Provide web application development and scripting work, debugging, and extensions to large scale web applications. Work includes expert technical operation support (help desk), web and database server management, process automation, application management, testing with a variety of client equipment and browsers and online data collection formats, and training to program staff and clients. Produce detailed documentation on system designs and operations. Some visual design and work with rich media delivery is required.

Other Responsibilities:

Use and management of computer applications including relational database management systems and application management. Plan, organize, schedule and produce products within tight timelines.

Minimum Experience/Education:

Associate’s Degree in Computer Programming; or Bachelor’s Degree with nine credit hours in programming; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Other Required Qualifications:

Must have knowledge and skill programming with PHP, HTML and CSS. Must have worked with Moodle software. Have 1+ years of related work experience in the required skills. Must have knowledge and ability to quickly and effectively create and modify web based applications that utilize JavaScript and database systems (MySQL). Knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of computer systems and peripherals required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Graduation from a two-year college with a AA or AS degree. Training and experience in programming and information systems management or related curriculum is preferred. Prefer a minimum of one year experience in use of PHP, HTML and CSS. Ability to plan, organize and schedule work for tight deadlines. Must be able communicate effectively orally and in writing including producing reports.
