About the Department:

The mission of the Division of Enrollment Management and Services is to support and enhance the total educational experience (recruitment, retention and graduation) of NC State students through a commitment to quality service that is responsive to the needs of faculty, staff and students. The Division seeks to attract and enroll a highly diverse class of new and transfer undergraduate students with outstanding ability and potential and subsequently to improve retention and graduation commensurate with the goals of the university.

Essential Job Duties:

  • The role of the Graphic Designer and Communication Specialist is to provide daily support to the Division of Enrollment Management and Services in regards to communication and marketing efforts designed to reach prospective students and their families, current students, faculty and staff.
  • The person in this role will perform a full range of public communications and/or marketing-related work and may provide specialized services in graphic design, digital design and print production.
  • Utilizing graphic design principles, the person in this role will design and create a wide range of information design documents and assets, both print and digital, including but not limited to a variety of print mailers, brochures, leaflets, posters, social media assets, billboards, videos, graphics, etc.
  • The person in this role will also be responsible for handling, processing and archiving all quote requests and invoices in a professional and highly organized manner with internal and external vendors.
  • Diligent and effective worker with strong organizational skills and the ability to go above and beyond to consistently deliver high-quality materials on tight deadlines and fast turnaround time frames.
  • Ability to maintain an excellent organization of the office archives, the shared virtual drives and hard drives, respecting the right naming conventions and archiving standards.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and involve the right stakeholders when needed.

Minimum Experience/Education:

Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Other Required Qualifications:

  • Diligent and effective worker with strong organizational skills and the ability to go above and beyond to consistently deliver high-quality materials on tight deadlines and fast turnaround time frames.
  • Ability to maintain an excellent organization of the office archives, the shared virtual drives and hard drives, respecting the right naming conventions and archiving standards.
  • Demonstrated competence in using creative software including but not limited to Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere Pro, XD, Keynote.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and involve the right stakeholders when needed.
  • Demonstrated mastery of graphic design principles with experience in both print and digital media.
  • Demonstrated use of design and typographic skills in solving layout and hierarchy challenges.
  • Ability to analyze complex information and translate the information into engaging messaging accessible to various audiences.
  • Ability to present a body of work in both a creative and strategic way.
  • Effective communication skills both verbal and written and the ability to communicate with other team members and stakeholders in a professional manner.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Ability to actively listen and ask questions to understand the communication goals within each project.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, deadlines, and customer needs.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to direct the work with design intern(s) and student workers.
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards, trends and technical knowledge.
  • Previous experience working with vendors including printers.
  • Contribute to the culture and community of the office.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in communication, marketing, public relations, or graphic design.
  • Experience using Windows based Adobe Creative Suite – Acrobat, DreamWeaver, Flash, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere Elements (or other video editing software), a working knowledge of social media practices and Chicago, AP style guidelines.
  • Previous work experience or related internships in the fields of design, communications and/or marketing. Strong organizational, writing, editing and critical thinking skills.
