The College of Fine Arts and Design is a center of excellence and innovation for improving and promoting arts education. Founded in 2001, the college combines the experience of Oklahoma’s oldest public educational institution with a forward focus on the significance of the arts in the 21st century. The College of Fine Arts and Design nurtures leadership qualities in its students, expanding the scope and qualities of their career opportunities. The institution’s emphasis on student-centered education enables them to interact and collaborate with over 100 outstanding full and part-time faculty members who are dedicated to developing the artist, scholar, creative professional, educator, citizen, and leader as a whole. Students are able to participate in over 200 performance and visual arts events every year. They display, discuss, and debate their work from a global perspective, and ultimately learn to specialize in their fields. The College of Fine Arts and Design consists of six academic units: the Department of Art, Department of Dance, School of Design, Department of Theatre Arts, School of Music, and the Academy of Contemporary Music. The college boasts specialized accreditations from National Association of Schools of Music (NASM), National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) and the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA). Position Information:

Teaches, advises and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Serves on department, college, and university committees as requested. Prepares departmental reports as requested. Engages in teaching, service, and scholarly and/or creative activities as defined by the tenure and promotion policy in the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook.

The Department of Art at The University of Central Oklahoma, a NASAD accredited department, invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in studio art beginning August 2021. The Department seeks a candidate with a strong studio and teaching emphasis in the foundations area, including drawing, figure drawing, color and 2-d fundamentals. The ideal candidate would be able to approach foundations in a contemporary manner while emphasizing strong formal, technical and conceptual skills. This expertise should be reflected in their CV and portfolios.

The successful candidate will teach studio courses in the Department’s core foundations and help strengthen the 2D foundations curriculum while coordinating with other faculty on departmental outcomes. The ability to work collegially with other members of the Department of Art, as well as utilize opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration is highly desired.

This position includes academic, artistic, and service responsibilities in an art program offering a B.F.A. in Studio Art with emphases in ceramics, drawing and printmaking, jewelry and metalsmithing, painting, and sculpture, B.A.Ed. in Art Education, B.A. in Art History and B.A. Arts Administration. It is expected that the candidate maintain an active scholarly/exhibition record while participating in service to the Department, College and University, with a strong emphasis placed on recruitment and retention.

Qualifications Experience Required:

Teaching, research, departmental/school and university service is expected. An earned terminal degree awarded by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution in the field specified in the position announcement (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval). **NOTE** If the terminal degree is not obtained and submitted by the time of employment, the position rank will change to TT-Instructor.

Qualifications/Experience:

At the time of application, the candidate will hold an MFA with an emphasis in the studio arts. Teaching experience at the college level is required. The ideal applicant will also hold a strong knowledge of contemporary and historical issues in the field and be a practicing studio artist with an active exhibition and scholarly record. A knowledge of basic digital technologies in the context of fine arts is preferred but not required.
