Department Summary:

The Department of Information Science, one of three departments in the College of Information, promotes the understanding of, access to and use of information through teaching, research and service activities. The department prepares information professionals of the highest quality to serve in various roles in the information science and technology role locally, nationally and globally. Faculty members of the department measure their success by the success of their students and the quality of intellectual contributions to the profession and society. The Master of Science with majors in Library and Information Science are accredited by The American Library Association continuously since 1965. The department also offers two bachelor’s degrees in Information Science and Data Science, graduate-level certification in school librarianship, a master degree in Data Science, post-master’s certificates of advanced study, and a doctoral degree in Information Science. Position Summary:

The Department of Information Science (IS) in the College of Information of the University of North Texas invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor (tenure track) position with a research and teaching focus in Information Science. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, Archival Studies and Management, Information Architecture and User Experience, Knowledge Management and Information Systems.

We seek candidates who will provide inspiration and leadership in research and teaching, who can leverage the strengths of the department’s dynamic faculty and programs, and who will build collaborative relationships in the University and profession.

This is a nine month, full-time, tenure-track position. The successful candidate will be expected to show evidence of or develop a record of scholarly research necessary to earn tenure. The candidate must demonstrate ability to design and deliver courses in a variety of formats, including online and hybrid modalities, and is expected to teach core courses and specialized courses in Information Science. The candidate is also expected to coordinate students’ practicum/internship experiences, work closely with doctoral students and serve on dissertation committees, and develop close relationships with practitioners and educators in Information Science areas.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must have an earned doctorate in Information Science or related fields; and demonstrate evidence of effective teaching, research, and scholarship with experience/expertise in broad areas of Library and Information Science. Applicants seeking appointment with tenure at the associate professor rank must meet UNT’s criteria for tenure at the associate professor level.

Preferred Qualifications:

Teaching experience in areas such as archival studies, information architecture, knowledge management and information systems
