Biological Scientist IJob Description:
Follow established methods to study the mechanisms of biological processes; follow established guidelines for procedures; performs laboratory experiments in accordance with established methods and procedures: This may include:
Cultivate, breed, and grow specimens for study and observation or for use in experiments
Isolate and maintain cultures of bacteria or plant tissue for study in prescribed or developed media, controlling moisture, aeration, temperature, and nutrition
Perform scientific experiments for analysis and standardization. This may include:
Conduct experimental studies with plants in greenhouse or natural surroundings
Participate in the development and evaluation of breeding populations
Provide coordination for expanded laboratory facility, which includes maintaining chemical documentation where required, supervising laboratory safety, coordinating and ordering supplies and equipment, ensuring proper maintenance and repair of laboratory/growth room/greenhouse/field facilities and equipment. Will be responsible for preparation, storage, and cataloging of DNA and bacterial strains and plant materials.
Participate in laboratory safety programs
Provide routine maintenance on laboratory equipment; verify that equipment and instrumentation are maintained in working condition to ensure accuracy and quality of experimental results
Provide input for evaluating new supplies, technologies, and equipment to ensure operability in specific laboratory settings for enhancing or complementing research
Maintain accurate laboratory records that record research methods, procedures, and results; prepare and maintain research findings, summaries, logs, and notes
Maintain computer databases; use publicly accessible, commercial, or proprietary databases
Serve as a technology/procedure resource for graduate students.
Select, install and maintain hardware and software. Troubleshoot problems with laboratory computers and peripherals.Expected Salary:

Bachelor’s degree in biology or a closely related life science field.Preferred Qualifications:
Prefer incumbent to possess a BS in Biological Sciences.
Knowledge of the terminology, principles and techniques used in biological research
Knowledge of and experience with the procedures, techniques and equipment used in tissue culture and molecular biology testing and analysis. Knowledge of the methods of data collection.
Skill in the use and maintenance of scientific lab equipment.
Ability to collect, record and analyze scientific data relating to the biological sciences.
Ability to maintain all areas under supervision in a safe and orderly condition.
Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
