The University of Virginia's Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE)—a pan-University center supporting higher education teaching at all levels and in all academic disciplines—invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate position beginning as early as spring 2021.

This is a full-time, 12-month appointment. A 1-year reappointment is possible but contingent on the availability of funds, business need, and successful performance.

The Post-Doctoral Research Associate will support one or possibly multiple CTE programs. The program work will be based on the Associate’s expertise, skills, and professional goals, though we are particularly interested in candidates who could support either our Curriculum (Re)Design Program or UVA Acts. The Associate will also help advance research and assessment efforts gauging impact and informing program development. Regardless of the programs and assessment projects they support, the Associate will help the CTE in its mission to integrate equity-focused educational development practices into its work.

The candidate must possess these minimum qualifications:

  • Experience managing or supporting programs/initiatives that engage faculty, graduate students, students, and/or alumni

  • Expertise with qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-methods research approaches

  • Experience in conducting assessments/evaluations of programs, initiatives, or center work

  • Theoretical knowledge of aspects of equitable pedagogical practices such as anti-racism, disability justice, universal design for learning, feminist pedagogy, decolonizing pedagogy, and/or queer pedagogy

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, ability to collaborative and manage multiple projects simultaneously, and attention to detail

Competitive candidates will possess some, though not necessarily all, of the following preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with designing and implementing programs/initiatives for faculty, graduate students, alumni, and/or students

  • Experience building inter- and/or intra-community relationships

  • Incorporating community voice in programs and/or assessment
