The University of North Carolina Occupational Safety and Health Education and Research Center (NC OSHERC) is a NIOSH-funded Education and Research Center, located at the Gillings School of Global Public Health, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. NC OSHERC Targeted Research Training (TRT) Program has two openings for post-doctoral fellowship positions for individuals interested in pursuing advanced research training in occupational health and safety, with a special focus on health and safety issues related to first-responders and other essential workers in the Southeast. These are full-time positions for a maximum of two years.
Post-doctoral investigators will have the opportunity to conduct occupational health and safety research in close collaboration with the NC OSHECR faculty at UNC-CH, Duke University, and North Carolina State University. Duties include data collection and analysis, publishing in the peer-reviewed literature, participating in seminars and work groups, and collaborating on research grant applications.
Training will be interdisciplinary and focused on the trainee’s specific needs, including mentored research experience under senior researchers in interdisciplinary research, and participation in seminars. Training may also include didactic coursework, depending on training goals and needs. Opportunities for teaching will also be available, which will include giving lectures and assisting/leading in study groups or laboratory exercises in formal courses under the direction of the course director.
This Fellowship offers ample opportunity for work with researchers, public health practitioners, and clinicians across disciplines, as well as to become involved with existing collaborations with community groups, non-profit organizations, employers, and professionals. The annual salary is set according to the experience of the candidate, plus a generous benefits package. These positions are contingent upon funding.

Applicants must have a doctoral degree in exposure science, industrial hygiene, epidemiology, safety research, ergonomics, kinesiology, behavioral science, medicine, or a related field.Qualifications and Experience:
Candidates must also have less than five years’ experience post-doctorate, a demonstrated record of individual initiative in research, strong analytic skills, and potential to become an independent academic researcher within two to three years. Preference will be given to applicants whose training, skills, and research interest’s best align with those of faculty at the NC OSHERC.Equal Opportunity Employer:
