Description of Work:

The Department of Health Policy & Management (HPM) is seeking a part-time Academic Program Support Coordinator (APSC) to provide support for academic program directors and faculty, student award processes, and departmental course scheduling and registrar functions, including but not limited to the following.
•Admissions Support – Support assigned degree-program directors with technical, logistical, and administrative assistance during admissions and recruitment processes. Ensure reviewers have access to the application system. Monitor applications and provide status reports to admissions committee members. Schedule, support and attend admissions committee meetings. In coordination with the program director, schedule applicant interviews.
•Event Planning – Assist with student event planning, arranging Zoom or other remote platform events as needed. When events are held in person, activities may include logistical support such as reserving space, arranging audio-visual support and catering or making food purchases, setting up for the event and breaking down afterward.
•Communications – Work with Academic Coordinators and program directors to update program manuals and other program materials. Ensure on-line program materials are up-to-date. Work with program directors to develop student informational materials for recruitment, orientation, and other events.
•Course Scheduling Support – Serve as primary staff support for course maintenance for all degrees and certificates in the department. Maintain the Master Course Schedule (spreadsheet) for the department. Provide timely and accurate reporting and respond promptly to stakeholder inquiries related to course schedules. Assist students in obtaining appropriate course registration permissions and with registering for restricted courses as needed. Track and provide reports on course enrollments to leadership.
•Student Funding Processes: Coordinate departmental student award selections, including recruitment awards and merit awards. Manage department awards in the Gillings School awards database. Generate correct notification letters and track student responses for recruitment awards.
•Coordinate textbook orders each semester within the deadlines provided by Student Stores.

Note that this position will be primarily remote initially, but will eventually require in-person attendance at the UNC-Chapel Hill campus. For remote work, the selected applicant will be expected to have regular access to secure high-speed internet service and a fully functional personal computer system running Windows 10 or equivalent/greater operating system with Zoom videoconferencing capability.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Prefer at least one year experience working in a student services or academic administrative environment or other similar relevant capacity. Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as experience with or capacity to learn quickly the UNC systems for course scheduling, registration, student funding, and other related processes. Requires proficiency using Microsoft Office software products.

This position requires a strong customer orientation and the ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with program faculty, Gillings Office of Student Affairs staff, students and HPM staff. The candidate selected for this role must have the ability to collect and input accurate and complete data, independently research policies and procedures to resolve routine student services matters and to solve problems of moderate complexity. Requires the ability to develop and compile complete and accurate reports needed to inform the recruitment and admissions processes, to identify enrollment trends, and to support leadership decisions in the department. The position requires a strong ability to be self-directed in managing workload; meeting deadlines; learning systems, policies, procedures, and academic program requirements.

Location: UNC is located in the heart of Chapel Hill, the best college town in America! It's a friendly town of about 40,000 in the geographical center of North Carolina. Chapel Hill is at the western point of the Research Triangle, an area of about one million people, comprised of Chapel Hill, the cities of Durham and Raleigh, and the Research Triangle Park, home of many corporate offices and scientific research centers.
