Job Summary: Under general supervision, the Student Life Specialist I is responsible for the administration of one or more Student Life program(s). Serves as liaison between the program and other departments or the community. Position may supervise staff or students. Part of the Student Life Career Progression Plan.

Additional Department Summary: The Career Advisor is responsible for all career-related advising, assessment, resume approval, individual student job search assistance, development and delivery of workshops/classes on a variety of career topics.

This position functions as a Career Advisor for assigned student and/or Alumni clients. The position has responsibility for all career-related advising, assessment, resume approval, individual student job search assistance, development and delivery of workshops/classes on a variety of career topics. The person in this position may serve on a variety of related committees, has responsibility for with outreach to faculty/staff in assigned colleges, departments and/or academic program and student organizations. This advisor serves as the Administrator for the Crimson Career Closet. S/he serves as a liaison to assigned student organizations, academic departments and other university departments. Each Career Advisor will assist with planning, development and organization of special events, printed materials and web-based materials for the Career Center as needed. Each Career Advisor is expected to increase knowledge and proficiency with campus recruiting software, identify and review both print and web-based career resources, and contribute to the continued development of the Center’s website. All of these efforts should be coordinated with other Career Center staff and other university units when appropriate. Responsible for completing required training that is related to laws and regulations, that creates a more hospitable and respectful workplace; and safer work environment.
Responsible for holding staff accountable for completion of required training.
Has personal accountability for financial reporting and responsibility for establishing, enforcing, and following internal processes and controls as outlined in UA policies and procedures.

Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher with at least one (1) year of experience in career services, student services, business, human resources management, or counseling; OR a Master’s degree. Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.

Skills and Knowledge: The position requires the Career Advisor stay knowledgeable of current trends and future developments in the career services area. The Career Advisor must effectively communicate with students, alumni, faculty, and employers. Positive public relations for the Career Center is critical to the overall success of the office. Creative thinking is required to develop and deliver relevant events and services to an ever-changing student population. This is to include involvement in the design of printed materials as well as coordinating media activities.Excellent oral and written communication skills including good public speaking, exceptional organizational skills, knowledge of computers and various software programs, especially those related to data management, word processing, event management, and group presentations. Problem solving skills are needed to establish effective timelines to achieve satisfactory results. Demonstrated commitment to expand multicultural knowledge, awareness, and skills as evidenced through: demonstrating self awareness; understanding and valuing others; demonstrating knowledge of social inequalities; interacting effectively with a diversity of people; fostering equity and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications: Two or more years in a university setting, preferably working in Career Services is desirable. Knowledge of career theory and student development theory is preferred.
