Job Summary/Basic Function: :

Responsible for leading the major gift fundraising strategy for the Lee College Foundation to advance and deepen philanthropic relationships for the benefit of the College. Guided by the Board of Directors and Vice President of College Advancement’s strategic vision, the Director of Major and Planned Gifts designs and executes the individual and corporate major gifts and planned gifts moves management process and collaborates with the Resource Development team to coordinate individual donor strategy, scholarship donor plans, and alumni relationships. Partners with the Director of Grants Management to identify overall department goals and objectives and work to ensure department success. Manages an active portfolio of donors and prospects with the goal of obtaining private major and planned gifts while supporting the priorities identified by the College. The position works in close collaboration with the Vice President of College Advancement and engages with College leadership, Foundation Board members, and volunteers. The Director supervises the Scholarship Coordinator, working to engage overall donor cultivation and stewardship in scholarships.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Direct the individual and corporate fundraising strategy for the Lee College Foundation, including cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities to build long-term relationships and maximize the philanthropic potential of all major donors.
  • Fundraising strategy areas of focus include major giving, principal giving, planned giving, capital campaign preparation, and annual giving functions in collaboration with alumni relations, grant, and scholarship staff in Resource Development.
  • Identify prospects, conduct appropriate donor research, and include qualified prospects into the moves management system.
  • Work with the Vice President of College Advancement to develop an annual comprehensive plan which outlines measurable objectives and courses of action for all significant activity during the year. Work closely with Vice President to determine specific cultivation strategy and ensure a coordinated approach to high potential donors.
  • Coordinate donor plans for solicitation, including written proposals if necessary.
  • Organize and support small- and large-scale fundraising events, including an annual gala, that cultivate and steward major and planned giving prospects.
  • Develop and present programs and materials (print and electronic) to educate potential donors about major and planned gifts.
  • Identify key performance indicators for fundraising success and, in collaboration with the database manager, measures and reports progress regularly. Utilizes data to inform program adjustments as needed to maximize short and long-term fundraising health.
  • Build and manage the fundraising budget, maximizing return on investment in all activities to ensure responsible and effective utilization of financial resources. Works with the Director of Grants Management to submit an overall department budget and ensure regular budget tracking.
  • Work in collaboration with the Director of Grants Management and CFO’s office to ensure proper recording of gifts and revenue received.
  • Serve as primary staff partner to Foundation Board fundraising committee chairs, informing, guiding, and aligning their activities to support the fundraising work of the Foundation.
  • Plan, train, and prepare College officials and volunteers to perform their roles in the fundraising process, including face-to-face solicitations.
  • Work closely with Marketing and Public Affairs to develop donor-related communications and strategies.
  • Partner with Director of Grants Management to identify overall department goals, schedule and lead team meetings, and work to ensure overall department success.
  • Attend Foundation bi-monthly meetings, identified committee meetings, and special events.
  • Provide support to the CFO’s office during the annual Foundation audit process.
  • Serve as liaison to institutional committees when appropriate.
  • Represent the College at various functions and community activities as assigned.
  • Perform other development-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: :

  • Bachelor’s (or higher) degree in nonprofit management, communications, marketing, business, finance, or a related discipline
  • Three (3) years of experience in fundraising with a strong emphasis in philanthropic communications; a proven record of accomplishment in fundraising, resource management, volunteer engagement, and organizational development
    Engaging, resilient, positive. Critical thinker and creative problem solver who seeks win-win solutions. Ability to build bridges and relationships within and outside the organization
  • Possess working knowledge of major gift process and moves management
  • Advanced word processing (Microsoft Word preferred), an intermediate spreadsheet application (Microsoft Excel preferred), and intermediate presentation application (Microsoft PowerPoint preferred) skills required. Knowledge of computer-based constituent relationship systems. Experience with Blackbaud’s The Raisers Edge constituent relationship management software, wealth screening, and Crescendo are highly desired
  • Experience in training, orienting, and organizing senior level volunteers in gift solicitation
  • Experience in orchestrating volunteers and soliciting gifts for capital campaigns
  • Mandatory discretion and professional judgment in dealing with highly confidential donor information
  • Demonstrated initiative and self-direction; ability to focus and achieve goals
  • Works extremely well with teams and in a collaborative environment
  • Possesses exceptional people skills and a high level of proficiency in written and oral communication skills Ability to interact professionally and tactfully with people of different levels of education, cultural backgrounds, and life experiences, and to exhibit an adequate level of respect to fellow employees and the College community at large

  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends as needed
